The crane has jumped since this photo was taken on Friday, and the tip of the crane is now higher than Millennium Tower.

I asked about that a while ago and no one responded. They're marketing it for the condos as 70 stories, but it's not actually true. It seems to be a trend in NYC too.

It may not be true for base 10, but maybe is for base 9. All you have to do is eliminate the deathly number 4.

That's a pretty cool document. Do you have one for the Salesforce Tower?

There are different superstitions in many cultures and societies that shouldn't be included in buildings; it's also a safety and emergency response issue. I hope it has a 13th floor too.

according to the engineering schematic in the link above we have three floors to go (including the two just started) before the transition floors between office and residential.

I imagine things will slow down a bit with all the welding and special lifts.

This is definitely starting to make an impact on the skyline. Here's the view from the Bay Bridge and Fremont Street offramp:

On some renderings, 181's skin subtly changes shades across the triangular patterns of the diagonal bracing. I was secretly hoping this effect might be created by switching the sawtooth direction of the glass panels on opposite sides of the diagonals. But from the pics above, it looks like a no-go.

Anyway, from yesterday:

Breaking the Horizon - from my View

I can now see the construction crane & it will not be long before I see the building. I am excited that I will be able to see part of this exciting high rise from my apartment at the Essex Fox Plaza (27th floor) where this photo was taken.

^^^The faceting effect is there. It's just hard to detect. Try aligning a straight edge (a card or piece of paper) with the edges of the floor slabs just below the "181 FREMONT.COM" banner over the image you posted above (copied here). You will see a slight change of angle. You're right about the sawtooth directions, though. Their general direction does not change across the diagonals, but I believe the angle changes will be enough to help create the faceting of light between the triangular faces we are hoping for depending on lighting conditions.
