Give me a 25' x 130' room, $2 million, and 10 years of time and sure, no problem.

Wow! You must really love NYC to have the dimensions of an entire microscale Manhattan already on hand

In case anyone wants a break from the 1/650 micro scale, here is my 1/50 scale model of a modest Art Deco building at 1959 East Jefferson in Detroit:

(I took this photo(posted on flickr))

The real building.

BTW, I recently acquired enough parts so that I might be able to begin construction on a model of the Guardian Building (a 40 story Art Deco skyscraper built in 1929).

Are you going to add the 1950s modernist expansion at some point?

I thought about it but one reason I did not is I have a fair number of large, heavy models that take a bit of effort to setup at train shows and other events. Its kind of nice to have a model that is less than 2 feet long and sets up in one piece. Adding the expansion would extend the model to 2.5 feet long. I might do it some day - that is the nice thing about LEGO, is you can always change or improve your creations.

Woah! I like how all the 1x2 dark red plates make it look like actual bricks (real life bricks, that is)!

I love this thread. I used to make skylines out of legos when I was younger, like 10 years ago. Lol, I'm only 25... but I guess I lost interest but all of these models make me want to start again, its a lot of fun.

Keep up the good work and I look forward to SkyscaperWeek!

I'm guessing the WoolWorth is the first Model of SkyscraperWeek? Looks great!!!

Or 9 years, since you already built a chunk of NYC.

Wow, I can estimate that this thread will experience a growth spurt over the next four days of about 3 or 4 pages because of the Skyscraper Week.

Great idea Spencer! Just out of curiosity, how long have you had the first out of the week's five models totally finished?

It's been done for a couple of months, so yea, I was sandbagging a little.

I was originally going to unveil it soon after the MetLife building, but decided to wait until I finished up some of the other models I had in-progress at the same time.

Looking good, Spencer!
I am not sure whether I influenced your decision to build the Woolworth or not but you do now have quite a few to the historical world's tallest buildings in your micro-scale collection. I am also looking forward to the other four new models, about which I have received a hint or two...

Even if building all of Manhattan is not practical without a wealthy benefactor, it might be fun to see if you could do the portion south of lets say Chambers street.
