This buiding is a more significant structure in the downtown fabric than I expected. Maybe because it's address is on what I've always thought of as an "alley" I discounted it. But the view posted above of it looking up the freeway ramp tells the tale. And the other day I looked over from somewhere on Market St and said to myself, "What's that buiding?" (which was this one of course). I hardly expected to see it from Market.

It must be up in my area at the top of Market, certainly visible, though not overly significant.

It was downtown somewhere--I was on the 5 bus which I took all the way to the temporary TransBay. Must have been somewhere between 1st and 2nd. Probably when they build 550 (?) Howard it'll be hidden but still it extends the highrise district south in an area nothing else does yet, like the Intercontinental Hotel on 5th does.

^^I was down there again today and grabbed this:

Later I noticed you can see more of it, actually, just looking down 1st St. The thing is, before there were no visible high rises past the wall on Mission. It adds depth to the high rise district--now they could go on for miles as far as you can tell because there's more looking between the Mission buildings.

From Socketsite - rendering conveniently at the exact same angle as timbad's shot above
Quote:
The refined designs for the public art to adorn the 35-story, 403-unit apartment building nearing completion at 33 Tehama Street (a.k.a. 41 Tehama) will be presented to San Francisco’s Planning Commission on Thursday afternoon.

Yayoi Kusama’s Flowers That Bloom At Midnight sculpture will be set on a base in front of 33 Tehama’s lobby plaza on the southwestern side of the tower which will eventually connect to the future Oscar Park.

In addition, a series of Kusama’s characteristic polka dots will be incorporated in the plaza’s paving and two oval planters will provide permanent seating along with some additional green and shade.

This building for me turned out better than the renderings. Even though it isn’t the tallest, I like it a lot. Simple and classy.

Agreed. It's a nice complement to the neighborhood. I also like that, unlike many other buildings, it is a mid-block building on a smaller street.
