There aren't many left, anyway; there is (are?) the Iona Mansions (IIRC the name) on Wellington and Carruthers, very different style, but similar effect. http://goo.gl/maps/i3icR

That stretch between Carruthers and Garland is quite neat. Plus there's a nice view of the Peace tower from that point as well.

What's the history of this place.. It's just down the block.

Iona Mansions is another beauty, definitely. And designed by Noffke, I think.

Yup, Noffke. That guy gave us so much awesome architecture! I too love that stretch of Hintonburg. Hopefully, it will always stay the same.

Wesley Building on Wellington West and Holland.

A bit of history. Was originally only 2 floors.

This one isn't exactly a "hidden" gem, but I find it doesn't quite get the attention it deserves:

The Brooke-Claxton is a gorgeous example of brutalist architecture. It's monolithic! I used to hate this style but it's really coming of age, getting ripe, in my opinion.

It's really quite nice, and it frames Holland Avenue and Tunney's Pasture nicely too.

Can't say I'm a fan of 490 Melbourne, but I've always been fond of Westboro Station I and the Brooke-Claxton.

Again showing my age, this building was popularly known as Judy LaMarsh Towers when it first opened in the 1960s. For those who don't know who Judy LaMarsh was, she was a very popular federal Liberal politician during the Pearson years. Google her. I still like the building.

Hands down, the Pearson Government was the greatest Canada has ever seen!
