Nice pictures. How come you picked these 5 cities? No London? Buffalo? Windsor?

Unfortunately I don't have any decent skyline views for those other cities.

Hamilton's skyline seems the most impressive relative to its population.

Yep, Hamilton is very impressive. I'm pleasantly surprised by Ottawa too. I've never seen that particular angle, which looks great. I might be alone in this, but I really prefer Detroit's skyline without the RenCen. It looks so much more cohesive and balanced when that is cropped out.

Nice work, as always, flar!

Stellar photo post, as always. I particularly like your last Hamilton and first Ottawa shots, they are among the best skyline pictures I've seen from either city!

Too bad Hamilton didn't keep up the pace it had in the 60s and 70s. There must have been a ton of cranes back then when all those buildings were under construction.

That last Toronto shot is killer, as is the third Montreal shot. The first Ottawa pan is impressive for its sheer scope.

BTW, I think Detroit's waterfront skyline isn't that flattering, at least taken from head on like all of the tourists and voyeurs. As most of the tallest buildings are at the front and the skyscrapers are aligned away from the river, it hides the rather vast built up area behind it.

I'd love to see you get an angle either from "behind" the skyline, or if it's from the other side of the river form Malden Park in Windsor:

So is it true what they say...we don't appreciate what we have until it's gone?

IMO without the RenCen, Detroit couldn't look more MidWestern without it! I left the GM Winter Garden in just so there's at least some presence of it in Motown heh.

We can always dream can't we?

I dunno, the Ren Center provides some Atlanta-style contemporary massiveness to the skyline reminding us that despite its woes and urban abandonment, the greater south Michigan metropolis is still in the big leagues and larger than Phoenix or Seattle

I like Detroit's "old" skyline too. I like the Ren Cen, but my main issue with it is that it is so massive. I would have rather seen four or five different tall buildings added to Detroit rather than one huge complex.

Detroit's density is definitely hidden in the view from Windsor but it's the most accessible vantage point. It's still a great view, but that's the problem for so many skylines: lack of good vantage points. That's why I don't have good shots of London and Buffalo. Even Hamilton, which is surrounded by great views from the Niagara Escarpment, has the problem of not being able to see all the buildings in one view. Two of the shots I posted include the three tallest, but the massing isn't optimal.

The whole ideology of Detroit and it's skyline is no more than one great big myth haha

Here's a mind bender though...in say the next 10 years+, does anyone think Detroit will have another skyscraper built? If not the new tallest, at least something to blend in well with the rest of downtown and to take the full attention off the RenCen? I do like the RenCen as it's something of it's own kind but something to rival it would be just as much of an asset.

I check the proposed/approved/under construction lists from time to time but my guess will be a no for anything built out of the ordinary although the Compuware building and the new casinos look good.

I'd wished that too; that a complex of five 500'+ footers could have been spread around a little bit more.

I'm not talking about separate developments such as the Guardian and One Detroit Center built next to each other sixty years apart.

One more:
