To be fair.
Trebek donated 2.3 million dollars of the 3.5 million cost of restoring these heritage buildings.
The rest came from other donors , the major ones being Johnson Insurance, MBNA Canada, and Canada Life. All three have been long time sponsors of the uOttawa Alumni Association
Alex Trebek has donated a lot more money to his alma mater spread over many years. Usually without public recognition.
The Global and Community Development Office at uOttawa has been a big beneficiary of his generosity. This office matches university student , staff and alumni volunteers to charities at home and abroad that can use their skills. Think of student and staff of uOttawa Medicine and Nursing Schools going a broad to do volunteer work in clinics in underdeveloped countries ---as only one volunteer opportunity this office arranges.
Trebek has donated hundreds of thousands to this office.
Saturday evening uOttawa will officially launch its 400 million dollar fundraising campaign.
The Campaign Chair is Perry Dellelce, a prominent Toronto lawyer (corporate finance transactional law) and uOttawa grad. The Vice Chair is Daniel Lamarre , President and CEO of Cirque de Soleil, and a uOttawa alumnus.
Shortly after the launch we will probably hear of other large donations, like Mr. Trebek's , that were pre-booked before the official launch.
P.S.--last month Camille Villeneuve, an Outaouais entrepreneur, and uOttawa alumnus gave 1.5 million to the Telfer School of Management at uOttawa.
