I lived in Oviedo, Asturias, Spain for the first 6 months of 2008. Oviedo is a small city of (220.000) in the Principality of Asturias in northern Spain. Oviedo is the political, economical and cultural capital of Asturias although it is slightly smaller than neighboring Gijon. You may recognize the city from Woody Allen's film Vicky Cristina Barcelona. There is a life size statue of Woody Allen in downtown Oviedo. Please excuse the poor quality of the photos, I think my camera costs about $50

The cathedral is in the middle of the historic city center.

In front of the museum of fine arts
It deserves four photos
The rest of the square with the cathedral
La Calle Mon, one of the oldest streets in the city. Also the center of the nightlife

One of the first pictures I took in Oviedo, you can see the tallest building in the background. A 22 story condo tower
On to the downtown park, campo de san francisco
Peacocks run free in the park. They are very loud and annoying. When they run into the streets you will see good samaritan run after them to shoo them back into the park... priceless.
My favorite cafe, cafe titanic. It was across the street from school
School, la universidad de oviedo. It celebrated its 400th birthday while I was there

There is a sizable movement to get the regional language, Asturianu, recognized my the national government. Its official within the Principality. Most city dwellers think its a barbarian farmer language.
The city is littered with statues. This one, La gorda (the fat lady) is a popular meeting spot downtown
across the street is "el culo" (the ass)
