Such a great building. Perfect setting. Great neighbors: Transamerica Pyramid, Bay Bridge, Coit tower, Golden Gate, Alcatraz, etc. Location location location. Its not how tall the building is but where you build it. Instant recognition on travel posters, post cards, t.v. print and internet advertising. No one is gonna say " what city is that and is skyscrapers with observation decks all they have to offer?"

But honestly, I think the complex on Rincon Hill and at its base on Folsom, while not as tall as these (though the hill adds about 100 ft to the apparent height of those on top), has had as much effect on the skyline by extending it significantly southward. There used to be no tall buildings south of Howard St. Now there are many of them and soon to be at least 3 more (4 if you count the Park Tower on Howard).

I totally agree these buildings are very prominent in the view...Perhaps because of the topography, these buildings look super tall from afar...

To Steveve: Thank you! For all of us who can't be there, this is the next best thing..... awesome pix. Spectacular setting. Spectacular city. Day or night. Some cities photograph only good at night with all the fancy lights and laser beams. Others only good in the day on clear days with just right the amount of clouds or mountains in the background. NOT our San Francisco. Beautiful from every angle; day or night, rain or shine.

I'm very relieved/thankful that this ended up turning out the way it did. Some renderings really made it look awful and phallic (especially on the chase center website). But the crown turned out to be very sleek rather than being bulbous/oblong like we saw in some renderings.

I have to say, since you keep bringing it up, any phallic associations are a product of your id and any visual issues of the sort you mentioned may be due to uncorrected astigmatism. I have never seen any of it. It looks to me quite consistent with the renderings in most closer photos although in some more distant ones the building looks less slender and more massive than expected.

Since they haven't done any work on the east or west sides of the top yet (glass or screen levels), I can look right through it from my place as though nothing has happened. I'm looking forward to the north and south sides being completed so that work can begin on the other two sides!

This is a city defining tower. Iconic in nature. The 21st Century Transamerica. Its position and location guarantees its a staple in the skyline to come.

Can't wait for Oceanwide Center. A good mate for this tower.

You can certainly see it from everywhere. I recall years ago being amazed how the Empire State stuck above the hills in New Jersey along the Huddson and was visible alone as one approached the Lincoln Tunnel. This building is like that--there are places where the rest of the skyline is hidden below some hill or ridge but this building sticks above all by itself.

Salesforce straight up reminds me of International Finance Centre across the large pond in SE Asia.

I wonder how long it will be before some one comments on how 181 Fremont resembles another specific building in Hong Kong.
