Hughes didn't build the Landmark, he bought when it was nearly complete, after nearly a decade of stop & start construction. This was near the end of his Las Vegas buying spree in the late 60s, apparently a vanity purchase made just to put his mark on that street near where Kirk Kerkorian was building a much larger hotel at the time, the International (LV Hilton, Westgate).

some of the old hotels were ugly no doubt, but some of the new mega hotels are beyond ugly.

visited with my family for the first time as a senior in high school in 1996.

i remember staying next to (or very near) the bellagio construction site... man that thing was huge.

My grandparents lived in Vegas and I made the mistake of trying to walk barefoot on their grass lawn once. It was like walking on syringes for my poor Vancouverite feet.
