Hard to tell from this image how good it will look, but the design seems Okay.

Can someone please explain why Karl Fischer is considered such a great architect? If I recall, he also designed TOM Condos which shows a serious lack in aesthetic value as well.

Samcon is easily better than this.

Le Murano - 7 floors
Cote-Saint-Luc (on land that the Cavendish Mall used to occupy before it was downsized)
Architect: Karl Fischer

Montreal ranked best for international events

http://www.torontosun.com/2012/08/06...-north-america

We've been 2-3 with these guys for the past 10 years or so. Nice to finally whack it!

Montreal can add another honour to its list.

Last month, the popular travel guide Lonely Planet named it one of the world's top 10 party cities.

On Monday, Montreal was named the best conference destination in North America by the Union of International Associations.

Washington D.C. was named second and New York city placed third.

"We are very proud of our ranking, which is testimony to the efforts made by our team and by the Tourisme Montreal team to make Montreal a top conference destination for international associations seeking an exceptional experience for their participants," said Marc Tremblay, president of the Palais des congrès de Montreal, said in a statement.

"This title, combined with our recent 90% score for customer service quality, indicates that Montreal and the Palais remain among the world's best-loved destinations."

On its site, the Palais des congrès de Montreal convention centre says it has hosted 4,300 events and 12.6 million visitors since opening in 1983.

Earlier this year, Montreal was ranked among the 22 most economically competitive urban areas in the world. The study was conducted for Citigroup.

Montréal est confirmée première ville d'accueil d'événements internationaux en Amérique

http://www.newswire.ca/fr/story/1016...ux-en-amerique

Disappearing views from Montreal condos

By Allison Lampert, THE GAZETTE
August 20, 2012

MONTREAL, QUE: AUGUST 08, 2012--Jacques Schonberg is looking at the fabulous view from the balcony of his condo in downtown Montreal. When he bought his 23d floor condo at the Crystal a few years ago, he understood that his view of the Olympic Stadium and the St-Lawrence river would be the view he'd get to keep, despite new condo projects planned right across the street.

MONTREAL - It was little more than a skeleton of concrete and girders back then, but Jacques Schonberg fell in love at first sight with the unfinished downtown condo because of the views.

From that René Levésque Blvd. apartment, which he later bought, Schonberg could see the St. Lawrence River, the Olympic Stadium and summit of Mount Royal. But with new condo towers to go up to the east and south of him, Schonberg expects the view from his expansive 23rd floor balcony will soon be replaced with a close up of glass and steel.

“I come home every night thinking, ‘wow I live here, the view is just spectacular.’ Now I’m trying to figure out how my view of the Mountain will get killed,” he told The Gazette, pointing at a tall residential tower visible below the foliage of Mount Royal. “You see the Port Royal? That’s one building. Now imagine a plethora of them.”

While new construction shouldn’t block views of Mount Royal — the height of developments near the mountain are regulated — recent zoning changes allowing for taller projects in certain parts of downtown, along with the low-interest rate fuelled housing boom, have triggered plans for a wave of towers in a city still unaccustomed to 50-storey residential buildings.

Despite predictions by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. for a slowdown in Canada’s largest residential real estate markets this year and next, Montreal’s downtown Ville Marie borough said recently the city is still in the midst of an “unprecedented” development wave, with more than 36 new projects under way.

But this blitz of parking-lot to tower conversions in Montreal, hailed by developers as an integral part of urban living, has created a new casualty. Views, usually bought at a premium by buyers, are now beginning to disappear within a few years as the next project goes up.

Le Bodega - 5 étages

This project has kind of been forgotten, but it is well under way. It is already a few stories tall. It's on Park Avenue just north of Sherbrooke.

I blame the people who decided the crystal should be 24 stories tall. In 5 years, the crystal will be completely obsocured by a "plethora" of 120m towers. Suck it up Crystal people, that's what happens when you build a stumpy little tower in the middle of a busy downtown area.

The logical result of Bimbaruism.

I see that thing everyday on my way to work, it is everything but inspiring. It fills in a hole, but that's about it.

2 updates:

1- Passed by 2020 University today. They seem to be replacing the Windows on the outside with new ones with a "silver"-coloured border. Not sure if it's an improvement.

2- Landing at Trudeau Airport a few days ago, I noticed that the extension of the international jetty is well underway. There is a crane set up, and it is a steel-frame construction. (The frame itself seems to be mostly done)
