The "back" side of L-Tower is as ugly as the front side is impressive. Sigh.

And that's why we're in the process of covering it up with another(slightly better, though nothing special itself) building.

That tall slim tower doesn't look toooo bad, though most of the others either have an outright odd design or very plain appearance coupled with dull lifeless glazing that lends a very drab look, hopefully they appear more inspiring in person.

Theyve opted for nasty, Tridel style spandrel.

Would it really be that much more expensive to use the flush spandrel/mullion window wall system such as the one being installed on Picasso condos on Richmond St W?

95% of all glass condos use glass spandrel panels so why single out Tridel? The raised aluminum spandrel panels on Picasso is more expensive and should age very quickly and look a whole lot worse in ten years.

I like the black colour of Backstage. It's a nice contrast to the blue if L-Tower.

I'm already getting tired of the pixelated-white-randomly-placed spandrel patterns being slapped onto recent buildings in TO. Like, it doesn't really work on L tower IMO, but say it does, why do the same thing with Backstage? I think it looks terrible, especially with L tower immediately behind Backstage as viewed from the south where the two overlap each other. It looks messy.
Even RCMI did it with the North Wall, I understand it was essentially a blank concrete wall they were covering up, but the dizzying pattern clashes with everything else on University. I think a uniform colour would have looked better.
Just my 2 cents.

Maybe they can call it a sculpture and have it constitute the public art component!

^+1. Can't wait to see their design for the 62-storey Delta Hotel in Edmonton.
