There's something about this "design" that just seems so familiar. Can't put my finger on it.

The podium is giving Westgate vibes.

Maybe because you've seen each part of the cut and paste design a billion times?

The DKG building had two trucks moving stuff out last weekend and utilities (I think?) were being marked out with spray paint earlier this week.

I look forward to following this project on walks around the block with my dog.

I think it would have been neat if they used the podium design for the residential portion as well. It'd be a 21st-century twin to Westgate and we really don't have enough brick towers downtown. Although I'll take anything in this corner of the city where density is sorely lacking.

The Annie B Apartment Tower Moves Forward in West Downtown

https://austin.towers.net/the-annie-...west-downtown/

The 34-story apartment tower known as Annie B planned at the northeast corner of West 12th and San Antonio Streets in downtown Austin’s west end has reached a critical milestone towards construction this week, with the city’s Design Commission voting to recommend the project for its density bonus at its meeting Monday. Rising 400 feet at 416 West 12th Street, the tower plan by local developer Stratus Properties finds its unique name from Annie Webb Blanton, the first female president of the Texas State Teachers Association and one of the founders of the Delta Kappa Gamma society that has operated its headquarters at the nearly half-acre tract since 1956.

There's a fun CVC map in the post.

That map makes you wish the convention center was east of the Capitol on those blocks currently occupied by low-rise parking instead of taking up so much non-CVC space.

Probably testing for asbestos in that mastic. I'd say there is probably a very good chance.

Oooof! That will slow down the demo. Remember how long the demo took before the Hyatt Centric could begin construction...

The renderings on the website show a somewhat different design now. Are these the most recent?

I would say they are the most recent. The top is much more interesting now than it was on the renderings released in February.

I like that they are tearing this down to build a park and improve the view of their project.

Oh yes, that little hint of a setback crown was all this one needed to go from nice-but-forgettable to exciting. Assuming it's lit at night it's really going to stand out in this portion of the skyline as a nice local peak.

Demo of the DKG building scheduled to begin Monday, May 2. Expected to take 3-4 weeks according to Stratus.
