Floor counts are generally confusing thesedays. Discrepancy from 43, 46 or 53 floors is likely due to marketing reasons - missing 4th, 13th, 14, 24th.... floors. Some buildings thesedays skip the entire 40th floors and go from 39th floor then 50th floor.....

it really is ridiculous to take out all the 4s. never mind the 13th. If you live in the building and are still on say the new 16th floor and its actually 14 then too bad, suck it up.

It's not ridiculous to drop the 4's if you are trying to attract Chinese investors. (Apparently 4 and "death" sound almost the same in Mando and Canto... I just got a tutorial)

My condo was built by Grand Adex (predecessor/sister comapny to Concord Pacific) - completed in 1993 - the building was sold-out in Hong Kong (which created a lot of bad press in Vancouver). It has all of its floors, including 4, 13, 14, and 24.

The number 4 is also considered unlucky in Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese cultures. It's easier to omit floors 4, 13, etc. than to try to convince people that their superstitions are stupid, and very few people will complain about the 4th floor not being numbered as such.

skipping 4 and 13 i can live with, i still think both are silly and we should be beyond such immature superstitions, but skipping 14, 24, 34, 40 to 49, etc... is too far, i am sorry, these buildings are being built in Canada, get use to it, you can call an orange and apple all day but in the end it is still an orange.

To me this is actually an insult to all other cultures and people in general that live here as to how much these towers are simply catered to over seas Chinese investors.

Even in Japan buildings still had floor 14, 24, etc... it was only 4 they skipped from what I saw.

For if these towers were truly being built for living space demand here, I am sure there are more than enough non Chinese people in our metro to buy units on floors with the #4 on them, the same way I am sure there are enough intelligent people in this world who would buy units on the 13th floor (such as myself, it is just a fu***** number).

In a way people could see such marketing practices as discrimination.

They only omit the 4th floor here in Shanghai. I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen 14, 24, 34 etc. removed. It's just developers overreacting to these Asian buyers, and looking completely idiotic in the process.

Guess what, Developers? A good product is a good product, and no amount of superstitious nonsense is going to scare away an investor from a good deal.

Skipping the 4th and 13th and etc floors can become quite a headache during construction. A lot of times the issued for construction drawings don't omit these floors, then later once the building structure is finished when it's getting close to sales time, they renumber all the floors and suites for marketing purposes. Then you have two sets of completely different numbers to deal with.

Not a fan.
