Houston First is in the process of negotiating a development agreement for the hotel portion of this project. A developer is expected to be announced this spring for a 350-400 room hotel and the plan is to have it open in mid-2017.

Like other Camden projects, this sounds like a wrap. It was previously announced in May 2014...

Some economists are speculating the boom could shift to Houston's East Side, closer to the Port.

Economist says city's east and west sides could reverse roles

Worried about lack of density? That's changing.

Exclusive: N.Y. developer unveils plans for massive Kirby mixed-use

New York-based Thor Equities told the Houston Business Journal that it is gearing up to break ground on the $125 million Kirby Collection, a million-plus-square-foot mixed-use project in Upper Kirby, despite the current oil slump.

"The oil issue is a silver lining for us," said Jack Bousquet, a developer at Thor. "We think we'll get more favorable construction costs and some of the competition will fade."

Demolition of the site's former buildings is finished, and construction is set to start in April or May, Bousquet said. It's slated to be complete in the third quarter of 2017.

Very exciting for Houston. I hope it finishes in time for the Super Bowl in 2017.

Speaking of oil slump, the price of WTI is up to over $51 a barrel today (Brent is $56). I can't tell if that's a dead cat bounce, the result of the refinery workers' strike or ISIS threatening Iraq's oil exports. It could be that the cutbacks in the industry are overdone, but for the meantime, I'm enjoying traveling the freeways with fewer heavy fracking vehicles.

You mean 1600 Louisiana? Supposedly it's on hold because Chevron's multi-billion dollar project in Australia.

And 7200 Main is not happening from my knowledge. It seems there was some confusion if it was even a real project.

CityPlace 1 is expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2016, said Keith Simon, executive vice president and director of development at CDC Houston, one of the developers of the project.

"The residential and business growth in the general north Houston area was strong before construction of Springwoods Village and CityPlace began and it has since accelerated," Simon said. "Now, with Exxon Mobil and Southwestern Energy in place, CHI St. Luke's Medical Campus underway and the first two CityPlace office buildings planned, you will have approximately 15,000 highly skilled, well-paid employees within the area, all of whom need and want access to retail amenities."

When complete, CityPlace will have over four million square feet of Class A office space, retail, a full-service hotel and luxury multifamily residential. CityPlace will be located at the intersection of Interstate 45, the Hardy Toll Road and what will be the Grand Parkway.

I'm sorry guys. The information I posted was incorrect. This hotel proposed by Houston First will not be a Le Meridien, but the hotel brand for the project will be announced this Spring.

It's actually the Melrose Building that is planned to be redeveloped into a Le Meridien.

Beautiful photos. Taken from a building? Or maybe a drone?

The current Doubletree at Allen Center-Downtown was originally a LeMeridien Hotel. But back then (1980) the hotel chain went by Hotel Meridien.
