I'm sorry if my post is kinda off-topic, but something about the Twin Towers is for me a mystery:

You noticed that each of the twin towers had two black "lobby floors" at the trirds of the height.

The strange thing is that, depending were you were in NY, when you looked at the towers , some times you could see these "black lobby floors", some times you COULDN'T.

on this picture it's almost impossible to see:

And, on this picture, they are clearly seen:

Very strange, no ?
Was it the purpose of the architect ?

Hmm strange man.

I noticed that too but what I think is that these always can be seen from height and never from low-level.

Mechanical floor vents. One World Trade Center will have them too.

That was David Childs' intent, bring back the form and massing of the original towers, while being an entirely new design. From the dead on angle above, it looks just like the North Tower, while from other angles, the tapering is more pronounced and it looks somewhat like an obelisk.

Like the Twins, this building will appear different depending on the angle you're viewing it from.

I have not been on here since Mar 22, 2012 at 4:20 PM. I have learned that 1 WTC has topped out. They are finishing up the building. it looks beautiful. Anyways, this is a deeply sad photo. 9/11/01 NEVER FORGET.

Talk about a nice memory. Not only the original twins in the background, but a Delta Airlines jet with the old livery and logo. Beautiful airplane. Beautiful nostalgia. Nostalgia from the 1990s.

Love this shot! Such a great shot, it's worth repeating, even though it might be frowned upon.

Maybe I am unfamiliar with something about NYC metro geography but given that the north tower with the antenna is the right of the south tower mean that this picture was taken from the east and thus this must be JFK airport and not Newark airport?

The picture either is inverted or was actually taken in JFK.

It's as if this person went back in time and filmed nearly every angle of the original WTC complex that I was curious about.

About the bands partway up the tower facades- those are in fact mechanical floors. I've got a drawing in a book somewhere- the pinstripe cladding on those floors actually widens a bit, and has narrow vertical fins, the better to catch changing light. Hence why those bands look so visible from some angles, invisible from others.
