That's going to be one sexy building. So many interesting ways the facade catches light. It's going to look so good!

Fall, a great time for skyscraper watching!

Not sure about that. I didn't spend too much time looking at the details of the window between the terra cotta. But I love the way this building interacts at street level. It's very distinctive, like looking at the renderings already. The city is so dense with skyscrapers that a lot of the time you can walk right by buildings, and not distinguish one from the next. This one really stands out.

Anyone know what the basic dimensions of this building are at the base levels?

It does not look as wide as I would have thought.

I believe the block is roughly 200x200 feet.

The diagonal cantilever paying homage to GCT is indeed a grand gesture.

onecarlyle, one of the world’s most distinguished private equity firms, will relocate their primary NYC offices to #OneVanderbilt. Another great reaffirmation in @slgreen_realty’s belief in #EastMidtown as the city’s premier business destination. With construction ahead of schedule and annual leasing targets already met, the building is on track for a successful opening in 2020.

That render makes me wonder why this tower needs a spire.

i get that the angled opening facing east is supposed to related to the scale of Grand Central but man the only think i can ever think of is it looks like One Vanderbilt is about to EAT the building.

The renderings make One Vanderbilt look a lot bigger than the ESB.

It's the viewpoint. Anything will look bigger with similar vantage points. How is this not obvious? You stand 5 feet from a camera, with a large mountain 200 miles away and you will dwarf said mountain. Schools should focus more on critical thinking...

There's something about those two perspectives that by comparison somehow don't add up IMO.

? They're taken from very different perspectives. And the 1st is an earlier rendering when it was taller.

The 1st is a hypothetical telephoto shot if you were to say be in a helicopter hovering over the ues around 96th street zoomed in. This is why there's less foreshortening here.

The 2nd is a perspective shot taken from Rockefeller center.

That is correct. The first rendering is from the video that featured the 1,501 ft version. The second, stockier version is with a reduction of 100 ft.

Here are similar views of a taller version.

Again from the video...

Current version...(slight change in spire)
