^^^ Because the critics view Stern favorably, oh wait, no they don't. Also, because the critics were so right when they panned every single album Led Zeppelin ever released... Oh wait they were totally wrong. Journalists and critics are human beings just like everyone else and their opinions are typically not any more valid than those of a well informed observer. Also, there are many people on this board who know a whole lot more informed than you seem to suspect.

Also, I'm not sure whether you have noticed that an entire style of architecture is being written off IN CHICAGO. It's been repeatedly shown that historicist bullshit like this doesn't work here because you simply can't justify the price of decent materials. Instead you end up with corrugated tin mansard roofs, what an architectural treat! Related has already shown that they love to skimp on materials (500 N LSD's shitty glass) and don't give a damn about details (111 W Wacker's mis matched mullions), so how exactly are we to expect they are going to execute well on a building in a style that is almost 100% reliant on quality materials and attention to detail?

Here's the thing... No matter the art form if you are writing off an entire style or if you are dismissing all the work of a prominent well reviewed professional in that field I got news for you.

Chances are you're not the guy seeing through the BS of the system... That the reviewers are wrong and you the enthusiast are right.

Nope.

Instead chances are you're either missing something or you're just using bias as a compensation for ignorance.

The most charitable treatment of Stern by competent critics is to simply and completely ignore him.

How does Stern get into Architectural Record (for one example)? In an ad.

This is a great point, and is what I'm worried about. I know they are also using precast on the one in downtown NY, which means we'll probably have the same treatment, but it's still troubling. The good news is that it will look better than Lagrange's work. Though Park Tower ended up looking pretty nice.

we're gonna ice this one for a bit while the city vs. city trolling dies down.

everyone has had a say on their opinion of the design, and now it's just a bunch of trollish circle-jerking.

when new info on this project is available, it will be posted here.

It might be a good idea to unlock the building thread and cross-post, so the meeting gets more notice. The thread will get unlocked soon enough anyway if we get a new render out of the meeting. Or do we think they'll just show the same watercolor?

I'm hoping get some clarification on how Brendan Reilly plans to fixed the 'failed' park.
Since his idea of a successful park is River Point/150 N. Riverside/Wolf Point, I'm expecting an incoherent load of manure.

If that height holds it would just beat out Aqua (822' per the rundown) for third tallest of the last 14 years. And take the number 5 spot for everything proposed. Not bad at all.

Would love to see more tower renderings. Thanks for sharing, BVictor.

I've seen the existing park several times this week. Sorry guys, but the park as it currently stands is pure shit. It's not a park, it's glorified landscaping. I think some people here just hate Ald Reilly and that's all. But in reality I can't wait to see this thing get redesigned, although to be honest I'm not a huge fan of what is currently proposed either.

I'm disappointed but not surprised that the tower won't be limestone. I'm glad that at least the base (and hopefully the redesigned entrance to the parking) will be.
