Anyone know what the longest continuous construction site is (in contemporary terms)? Seems like the former WTC site will be under construction in one form or another for as long as 20 years. Is that some kind of (recent) record?

Silverstein: New W.T.C. Will Host 250K People Daily

By Josh Wright
September 7, 2010

Quote:
Larry Silverstein announced Tuesday that when the new World Trade Center is complete by 2015, it will boast the daily foot traffic of 250,000 people.

Mr. Silverstein hosted a press conference at noon on Tuesday, where he and other notables like Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Paterson expressed their intention that the 9/11 memorial be completed in time for the 10-year anniversary of the tragedy. This comes in the wake of a recent deal between Silverstein Properties and the Port Authority, which allots $1.6 billion of public funds to the construction of Towers 3 and 4.

Mr. Silverstein said that Towers 1 and 4 will welcome their first tenants in 2013, and that by 2015, the new World Trade Center site will be complete.

He estimates that 250,000 people will either visit or work at the complex each day. At that same press conference, Joe Daniels, the president of the 9/11 Memorial Museum, estimated that the memorial alone would attract five million annual visitors.

Thumbs up

Well with the media scrutinizing the progress, it seems like developers have an obligation to complete the project by 2015 (probably includes Tower 5 as well).

The Port Authority seems to want to aggresively push the timetable on Tower 5. Silverstein speaks as if there will be no stopping of construction on his towers.
With Tower 3 he needs minimal commitments. With this one, he will need a real tenant. He has little more than a year to get one.

A brief update, with foundation work on the towers at the end...

There's so much construction going on down there, we're lucky they didn't show Fitterman Hall as the new tower 4. But in defense of those people,
tower 4 and the Deutsche Bank tower are now about the same height, with cranes equalling each other in the sky...

Anyway, some eye candy for Tower 2....

There's also the Water Tunnel 3 project deep under the city which has been under construction since 1970. May not be completed till 2020, by then it would have been under continuous construction for 50 years.

There's a cathedral in Manhattan that's been under construction for over a hundred years, and probably won't be completed in our lifetimes...

He needs to lock down a financial with extensive trading needs; what’s working against him is time that these companies don’t have to waste in looking for new homes. UBS Investment Bank should be on his radar.
