Thanks for the update George, unfortunately I'm disappointed with the glass from this angle.

Let's consider another building with a full glass facade and thin mullions: WTC 1. Much flatter and lighter appearance of the glass, not super reflective and rippled like this.

I question the aversion in design away from sprandrel beams and exterior 'column' covers as the cheapest way of articulating the facade and concealing imperfections of the glass. Maybe it's thought of as too post-modern?

7WTC is probably the better comparison, although there is really no comparison.

I'm guessing the all-glass is simply an expression of SCB's in-house style, which favors large expanses of each material. For the opposite approach, look at Pappageorge/Haymes, who use complex facades that blend 3 or more materials in a small area.

For the record, I think SCB did a great job on Parkview West with the exception of the glass tint, and obviously they hit a home run with 340 OTP.

EPIC FAIL... when designing a minimalist tower that relies on one or two key details to define it, you better get it right....

based upon the renderings there should be 3 distinct colors of glass perceived at all times on all elevations in all light conditions (with varying degrees of contrast)...

the result: minimal perception on the north elevation on sunny days, and a minimal perception on cloudy days...

otherwise, the pattern is invisible...

This is clearly some of the worst glass we've ever seen on a building in this city. It's so wavy, that it completely destroys the look of this building to the point where it almost draws your eye in due to its distracting awfulness. Big thumbs down for this project, especially turning out this way in a location right along lsd and the lake. Disappoining to say the least.

I like the three-winged pepper-coloured building not too far away...

500 LSD, in context

North Lake Shore Drive, from Lake Michigan by YoChicago1, on Flickr

Click on the link to go to Flickr, then right-click on the image for larger versions and a closer view of 500 LSD. You'll also get a glimpse of Optima / 200 E Illinois and the crane on AMLI River North.

Is anyone missing the Spire?

Though not real tall, it's a beautiful and quality skyscraper and adds a slightly new dimension from the shoreline

Yes, it brings some glassy contrast to the brown buildings there. But the ultra low quality of the glass still brings it down.

The tower crane was being disassembled today.

If we still put "T/O" designations on threads, this one's ready (evidenced also by the recent photos).

I hope some day the city will have more complex looking skyscrapers instead of the usual box type, still good building though
