I agree that 311 Bowie will help tie all the buildings together, but the pic with the power plant in the foreground really shows the importance of building up in that area to really fill in the gaps. Could the current construction of 311 Bowie be a factor in the delay at Seaholm? Are they afraid of over building for that part of town?

I believe the floor they are working on now will be the last.

It'd be nice to get those power lines put underground.

Thanks. I'm never really sure how to count those taller floors.

Actually I think they're working on the last one. If you look at corvairkeith's first photo, you can see that the "first floor" lobby level actually consists of two floors. The one above that does, too. If you look closely you'll see there is a floor slab dividing those two big floors into 4 floors.

Besides, I think if they had to do two more floors plus the mechanical penthouse, that it would probably put the bottom of the crane pretty close to the building. And it would seem silly to need to raise the crane only one or two sections. Crane sections are 20 feet tall each.

I wish it was a bit taller. The building is just barely going to be visible from Saint Ed's. It'll just barely be above the tree line.

It's looking impressive. By the way, I was looking through the city's website and found the old approved site plan info for the Lumberman's development on that site. This was a 15-story office tower that got approval in 1982. The building would have been 220 feet tall with an adjacent parking garage to the north. The two addresses were 910 West Cesar Chavez Street and 219 North Lamar.

I don't know why I just now noticed this, but the curve of Gables and the curve of Monarch look great against each other as in this photo, provides some nice visual continuity for the burgeoning high-rise district around Shoal Creek.

There are a surprising amount of commercials, TV shows etc. filmed in Austin that go under the radar. While spending way more time than I should looking through all the building/event permits on the city's website, I've noticed a lot of applications for street closures for film crews.

^Yep, I have also. Grumpy Cat was famously here, supposedly to shoot a Friskies commercial.

...and that insipid TV show "Pretty Little Liars" files for a lot of permits for filming even though that show is supposedly set in Phoenix.

I like how the building appears different from almost every angle.

Funny how Gables is not so tall yet its making quite an impact on the skyline. It's like a Charles Barkley for a skyscraper. It's undersized yet has a dominant appeal to it.
