Dixon, IL

Dixon is a town of almost 16,000 on the Rock River in Lee County, Illinois. It was the boyhood home of former president Ronald Reagan, who was born in nearby Tampico, IL.

Dixon has a solid downtown for a town it's size.

The Wings of Peace and Freedom, a remarkably bad sculpture.

Houses on Ottawa Ave

Lee County courthouse

Galena Ave

Taking a hike in rural Ogle County, to the northeast of Dixon.

Illinois is generally flat, but it gets interesting near the rivers.

Thanks for the tour of a local (for me) town.
Even though it's fairly close I've only been to Dixon a handful of times. Once when I was younger and braver I took a drunken drive to see a friends band play in a bar somewhere on the main street in downtown Dixon. Today I don't even drive two blocks drunk.

Another classy small town from the "Land O Reagan". The downtown is structurally awesome... and even features a Thai restaurant!

Nice pictures. Dixon looks like an interesting place for a smaller population.

Sorry, couldn't help myself but to post something from the Reagan Presidential Library!

Nice shots, though. Very nice!

Well rockyi, if Dixon doesn't have one any longer, I guess Simi Valley's the only place to see it then!

It's in the lower 40's and drizzling here at the moment so Simi Valley sounds quite nice.

Looks like just the kind of place that could provide a President with some memories he might use to conjure up images of the Heartland.
