Aah, it's all about 'the Lakeview lifestyle'.

The author(s) of the “savelakeview” website suggest a solution for access to the casino could be via a “slip road” off of Glenmore Trail and the existing casino access would be closed whilst keeping the round about for pure access to Lakeview.

What is a “slip road” and do you think their solutions are feasible at this point?

I think this woman is either the leader or the face of Save Lakeview.

https://twitter.com/drduniapetunia

Her Twitter description is scary. This group needs to be stopped RFN along with YYC Cares.

I would dare to say that one could transplant Rosedale residents into Lakeview and vice versa and no one would notice. The nimbyism is both areas is very strong - this all reminds me of the Rosedale opposition to a hospice in their community. So much foot stomping, meetings, scare mongering and such and yet the hospice went ahead as planned and has peacefully existed in Rosedale for years with most people not even knowing where it is or noticing any effect on the community of Rosedale.

I wonder why, at this late date, that the masterminds of “savelakeview” are coming up with these ideas. And I wonder why they didn’t know about the binding agreement re: 37th street access.

And I wonder if, and hope that, the recent Lakeview community meeting with the Chief was a positive step forward for both The Nation and the community as good neighbors!

Save Lakeview and YYC Cares are nothing but selfish troublemakers. They both keep claiming that all of this is new to them yet the information has been public for ages. Even the huge development the Nation wants to build has been public for a long time. If I know about it then there's no reason why they shouldn't. They're playing dumb on the info issue on purpose. Their solutions go directly against what they're claiming. I don't think they represent Lakeview or Discovery Ridge but since they're very likely stacking the meetings with their people it probably comes across that way.

Perhaps people smarter than me can answer a few questions:
(1) Is there a bonafide plan to completely close off 37th Street interchange while the permanent solution is built?
(2) What is the Casino's plan for getting access to the facility during interchange reconstruction?
(3) Once the new interchange is operational, does the design give preferential access or configuration for the Nation's development over the residents of Lakeview?
(4) Are there current traffic issues at the 37th Grey Eagle roundabout that are detrimental to the residents of Lakeview?

Thanks 5seconds for the response. Pretty much as I had thought, the plan from the Nation/AT/KGL covers all the bases and is the best possible solution.

The main organizer of Save Lakeview is an Economics prof at MRU. Seeing as she is organizing Save Lakeview, it’s no rocket scientist Level work to figure out she will experience a lot of bad transportation options over the next few years for no payoff. My guess is that her group is a lot of students and staff walking/cycling/short drive to/from home and MRU.

Also, the Save Lakeview group is definitely anti-development, they don’t like commercial development in or around their community, period.

The Save Lakeview group is also anti First Nations, or they don’t understand the relationship with the First Nation is at the federal level and not at local or community level. The is no requirement for the Tau Tina to consult with the neighbouring communities.

In fact, the entire reason the current interchange is so curved and far away from the rest of 37th street is because it was designed to act as a detour for while the permanent interchange is being built. It was literally designed to stay open during construction.

Access will come from a new temporary intersection at 37th street and Lakeview drive, about 50m south of the current roundabout. Casino traffic will split off west there and access will be maintained throughout construction.

Somewhat. The developments will eventually be the larger generator of traffic, so the new interchange has the southern leg veering slightly west away from the community. Lakeview residents would go south from Glenmore on the new 'Tsuut'ina Parkway' road, and then turn east into the community. This design keeps development traffic out of the community. If the interchange went into Lakeview first, then development traffic would have to head into Lakeview first before splitting off, which no one wants.

It might not seem it on first glance, but it's the better of the two options even for residents IMO.

99% of the time, no problems. Sometimes after a concert lets out a 1000 cars are trying to get out at the same time, I have seen things back up at that location.
Well that about shoots down all the groups arguments.
I nominate 5seconds to represent against them.

Keep an eye on this page of their website.

https://www.savelakeview.ca/crime

I can't wait to see what twisted "facts" they put on this page. If they're willing to claim that this development is going to bring horrendous crime to their community what other nonsense or they going to bring up?

Who are the Save Lakeview NIMBYs?

This is priceless!

Our Story

When a small group of concerned Lakeview residents discovered development plans that could potentially & permanently destroy our wonderful community - WE ACTED!

Our group is comprised of engineers, project managers, development consultants, lawyers, concerned citizens.

Everyone is welcome.

Our missions are to disseminate accurate information to Lakeview & North Glenmore Park residents that developers want to keep quiet, then ensure that RESIDENTS HAVE A SAY IN WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR COMMUNITY. We promise to Influence, Educate and Lobby in the best interests of our Community.

Source: https://www.savelakeview.ca/about

Just how concerned could they be if they missed about 10 years worth of meetings, etc.? We all know they knew about this stuff from Day 1 and are only playing dumb now because they didn't get what they want. And what they want is no road at all. Most communities would have been thrilled not to have a major freeway go through their community but still have one nearby for their use. But not these self-centered crybabies. The province needs to start playing hardball with this group and YYC Cares.

So is detailing 'engineers, project managers, development consultants, lawyers' supposed to carry more weight? Why not garbage truck drivers, McDonalds employees, Mary Kay representatives, etc because you can sure as hell bet that people in jobs all live in Lakeview as well.

What's more interesting is that the Lakeview Community Association seems to gave been well aware of the ring road and all sorts of stuff related to it as per their newsletters and web site but the savelakeview people weren't? I wonder maybe if the savelakeview people are just a group that wasn't happy with what the CA is or is not doing in their opinion or maybe it's a select number of ex CA board members who weren't getting their way.

And the savelakeview.ca web master, what a laugh - check out where the Twitter, Facebook and Instagram icons link to. So lame, inexcusable really.

I'm not a fan of the ring road in general, but this is disgusting. An, ugly, massive bowl of gray concrete spaghetti. This might be the most offending piece of public infrastructure I've even seen.

.
Even worse than this abomination.

You don’t live near that so mind your own business. Your opinion on the looks of it does not matter.

Are you guys serious?? I'm allowed my opinion, as a tax payer and as someone living in a democratic society with a democratic internet.
I will tone down my ranting next time, but no amount of calming down will hide the fact that the proposed interchange is a total cluster fuck of ugliness.

As I mentioned before, I'm not a fan of the ring road, but unfortunately it's necessary. A necessary evil more or less.

So how would you propose that that ring road/highway 8/Glenmore Trail/Sarcee Trail exchange be built?
