Whatever is being said about the buildings’s material,it is an incredible work environment. Comcast spent enormous amounts of money building an environment that is wonderful to work in. They didn’t need to spend enormous amounts on each lounge, but they did. The cafeteria is better than Ralph’s Cafe. And every detail of the building has been really well thought out. That being said, they are still taking suggestions on how to improve minor details.

Trust me, if you are a tech engineer in Center City, this is the building to work in.

Hopefully, the CTC employees will be allowed to photograph and post photos of the building interior. They threatened that we could be fired if we posted photos on social media, so I’m keeping my photos under wraps (this is an incredible job for me, so I’m not taking any chances.)

exterior 'wood'

I stopped by the building this morning and I'm sorry to say but I'm 99.9% sure that what's installed on the exterior of the main entrance area is not wood and probably doesn't have a ounce of anything natural in it, unless you think highly refined crude oil and natural gas counts. Plastic of one sort or another through and through, with a skin, probably vinyl, that has a wood grain printed on it. It has no texture at all. I hope it fades and falls off in months
I can't imagine how this product is in any way 'green'; and to make it worse, at least to me, it's plastic trying to pass itself off as wood. Let plastic be whatever it's good at being and don't try to be something it isn't.
End of rant.

"Inside the winter garden at the Comcast Innovation and Technology Center, designed by Foster and Partners. Wood louvers made of ash line the interior volume. On the ceiling, they allow natural light to pass though to the weeping fig trees below. The floor is made of crosscut reclaimed white oak pavers. Semi-reflective etched mirror glass clads the elevator core in counterpoint to the natural materials."

Wood louvers made of ash.

So what you're saying is the inside is different from the outside?

I don't think this helps that much because it is not specific to a location of use. But, the CDR submission said certified wood under "material and resources" and indoor material said composite wood and agrifiber products. Take that for what it is worth.

Then again it's plausible that a certain amount of value engineering takes place after the CDR presentation. I don't think they are legally bound to adhere exactly to specs from the CDR document.

I can't make any comment about any of the wood (or wood like products) used on the inside of the building-----since I wasn't allowed in; the photos look like real wood, especially the oak pavers, but I've was fooled by photos before. All I can say, and with great certainty, is the 'wood' I made mention to a couple posts ago, is in no way wood. (unless the core is wood fiber wrapped with vinyl)
I don't think this will matter to many people at all, and even thought I hate fake wood in all its forms, overall I think this is a very good, if not great building,----which is still under construction.
As I understand it, the vinyl wrapping of whatever the product is that's used on the outside of CIRC, is basically a photograph of wood, or a digital representation of wood, printed on thin vinyl sheets, which are then wrapped around the core material. It just as easily could have been a photo of a sandy beach or Brian Roberts or anything. But then it wouldn't appear to be wood.
