Very impressed with how this is turning out.

I hope it proves indicative of what we can expect of Drexel's future plans for development in the area.

Tower Crane

The tower crane was supposed to start being removed today but because of the winds its been pushed off. You should start seeing it being dismantled over the course of the next few days.

I like the tower a lot. The paneling on the base however looks cheap, at least in the last few pictures.

looks like crane is starting to come down at this project. It was lower than the top of the building when I saw it this morning.

It's really irritating. If you're not going to build with high quality materials (like say the Mormons are using on their church), then why not just go with all glass? It's the same thing with that new tower on 21st and Chestnut. It ends up marring the entire building. It boggles my mind why developers do that.

Reduce coast and maximize profits.

Window Wall Systems (Glass) start at $75 / SF precast panels run around $45 / SF. If you are dealing with an exterior skin of 50,000 SF which is about the SF of the Precast Panels your saving $1,750,000 by using a precast panel system not to mention the large amount of savings in mechanical systems. If you have an all glass building it is extremely costly for mechanical systems because they would have to run constantly and the CFM's would be probably double.

I really have no idea what I'm talking about, but isn't there another way to incorporate the cheap stuff without concentrating all of it at the base where it's most visible to the passerby? For example, running a narrow strip of it up the tower or incorporating it into the crown?

Or just use the same pale color cladding. The randomly-placed brick colored panels provide nothing substantial.

Yeah. Seems they could have still economized on the base with a more aesthetic result. Still, great to see a tower go up in this area, and the tower piece looks nice. Hopefully, the base will get face-lifted eventually like we are seeing with several buildings on Market Street right now.
