It's spring here so yes it's the most sunny time of the year - but it's not Dubai or anything - we do have our cloudy days too

Liseleje

Moving north of Frederiksværk we hit the coast again in the cozy coastal town of Liseleje - like most up here it's mainly summer homes

Here too you will find a nice beach

And you'll find houses scattered along the coast - usually tucked away in the dunes

Beach erosion is a problem along all Danish coasts, but can be stopped quite easily

Oh man I so wanted to get in...

Wave breakers works well too..

Going a bit inland we see the typical sandy dunes that's present almost everywhere along the coasts here

Old 'smoke house' where the fishermen would 'smoke' their catch so it lasted longer in the old days

Bring a towel and a book and you're good to go

More scattered houses - I will recommend people to look at the area with Google Earth to get the idea of how the area is

And finally another empty parking lot a bit inland..

Hundested

We now come to the final spot on my little trip - litterily the end of the road - Hundested, a nice city most known for it's ferry connections

Uhhhhh... pretty...

Typcal old Danish farm..

The Issefjord straight cutting into Zealand - the Ferry to/from Rørvig on the other side on it's way

Old defenses from the war with England

Lots of new sprawl there

"Downtown"

Provincial Denmark in a nut shell..

The local train line

Gettng out to the coast again..

And finishing the trip at the nice city beach

Well I spent this winter in Northern Alberta and then Eastern Saskatchewan, that wasn't exactly stunning.

WOW do I second this opinion! If these pics had been shown to me and I was asked to guess their locations (except for the ones with Danish signs, of course), I'd have without hesitation said "Cape Cod or some other New England coastal area". I feel like I've been to these places many times in my life.

I prefer the freezing cold climate and snow of Canada to the rainy, windy and grey shit we have going on here during the winter months.

Dronningmølle

The weather turned out better than expected today, so I desided to finish my coverage of the northern shore, starting with Dronningmølle

Mmmmm nature....

The city is pretty small and doesn't offer much - but some of the old buildings are pretty nice

Another city another beach

What the heck was people thinking in the 80s?

The local grocery store...

Hornbæk

Moving on east we get to the old habour city Hornbæk and it's more recent vacation home district

We start out by the habour - that failed to impress.. pretty much only small fishing vessels

The old town..

The typical Danish habour buildings

Hornbæk Hospital specializing in spine injuries..

Traditional house

Calm and cozy..

The main street

Moving out west to the more typical part of town

In the outskirts you start get to where the rich people live - sadly they usually hide behind walls or hedges

So instead we move trough a forrest filled with traditional 'summer homes'

The building style dates back to the Vikings who used tared wood and 'living roofs'

There is of course always some who has to over do it

The modern version for the Viking on the go

Hitting the coast again..

And finishing off at the beach ( Sweden in the horizon )

Helsingør
Elsinore

Going further east we end up in the old strategic port of Elsinore - home of the Elsinore castle and a very well kept medival old town

We start by visiting the 'Kronborg Slot' castle made famous by the fictive Hamlet written by Shakespear

In the old days both sides of the strait used to be Danish and we taxed all ships passing - now the opposit side is Sweden

So this is no toy castle, it had a very important role and was contrary to most other Danish castles further defended after the age of cannons

To enter it you need to go trough a series of ports, moats and gates

On the land between the moats barracks were constructed to house the soldiers manning the guns

Good luck getting in there under fire ( halfway trough the defenses )

There we go, only a stone trow away - and the closest I will get today

Off to the old town we go..

The exit is more inviting than the entry I must say

The rapid ferries between Denmark and Sweden, departs from each side every 10min

Getting closer

And we're there..

Another castle? Nope - it's the train station..

Flower market.

In typical Scandinavian fashion most of the old town have been made into a pedestrian shopping zone

Ehmm.. yeah...

The side streets are unchanged for the last 400 years

All private homes here was tudor 400-500 years ago

People back then had no respect for fires - some learned it the hard way..

Scandinavia representing!

And that's it.. the end of the northern cost - I hope the pics gave you an idea about how it is like up there.. maybe even made you want to visit some day

As a bonus here's a few pictures from the outskirts of Elsinore along the Strandvej ( "beach road" ) hugging the eastern coast between Elsinore and Copenhagen ( the most exclusive road in the Kingdom )

Now Elsinore is definitely a nice place. Albeit a little "too" crowded with drunk Swedes on day-trips.

That's nothing now compared to the old days before the Øresunds bridge and EU import tax rules..

Back in the day it would be like the 3rd day on a music festival - people lying in their own womit semi unconcius producing wierd Swedish sounding growls

and huge groups of zombie like people waiting to sober up enough to be accepted on the ferry home - those were the days
