Glazing hung off of the structure like a 'curtain'.

What's the tower going up in the background (to the right of L Tower) in that first shot?

Looks like curtain wall glass on the north side, and window wall glass on the west side from that pic. Is than an accurate read, or is it all window wall?

The curtain wall looks great. Why couldn't they just use it on the whole tower? I'm not saying the other cladding looks bad, but it's definitely not AS good.

When did it become the norm for skyscrapers to use different (quality) cladding on different sides? It seems like they ALL do it nowadays. I guess this is much more of a world-wide question than a Toronto question. "I remember the days... when entire sides of buildings wouldn't be value-engineered compared to other faces of the same tower."

Cost was a factor, and this is not a high end building.

The use of curtianwall was pretty much required due to the curve on the northside of the building.

Totally off topic, but I love that older brick building on the right hand side with the almost Stalin-esque domed towers on it. I remember driving by it on my last visit to Toronto on the way to my hotel and marveling at it.

that was built well before Stalins time.. and a decade before the New York flatiron as well!

it is called the Gooderham building, and many refer to it as the flatiron.
