open and basically done. Anyone know if they're going to do that screen around the curved window? (I hope not, I didn't like the look in the rendering.)

I guess they're going to put the metal screen on after all. A shame since I like it better without.

This one should have its status change to "Completed". Walked by yesterday with the family, it was pretty busy.

It looked better without that 'screen'.

Same for me. I wonder if that is the same red car?

Is the metal screen a sun screen?

Is this sales for a new store or are they planning to replace the building with condos?

Not sure who the company is yet... the site is currently for lease online

If you hadn't heard, Tommy & Lefebvre was bought by Sporting Life. This store will close when the new Sporting Life opens at Lansdowne.

35k sq feet downtown is not an easy retail site to find. Gotta think a few will be lined up for a kick at this one. Has parking too.

Albeit small... I would like to see a Canadian Tire go here. Maybe another MEC (seems to be the right size and market for them).

According to Colliers the sale also included 383 McLeod, the store's parking lot across the street

Apartments over shops is a passing phase?

The ownership model maybe, but the notion of residences above retail on major shopping street is age old.

No reason there shouldn't be a 9 storey building here, like the 2013 Centretown plan calls for.

Seeing as this is a new building, will a developper just build on top of the existing building and make updates/changes as need to it? Surely it would be way easier and cost effective to do that than to tear it down and start over again...

You like old over new and are anti-condo, too?

You can never have too many residential buildings in a city. It would be nice if we could get more housing like what's provided at Beaverbrook; there isn't enough of that in this city.

Like idea of Canadian Tire. Downtown doesn't really have a hardware store.

Ya, condos are a passing phase... Riiiiiight. Because there's clearly no demand for a lower maintenance properties, conveniently located near shops, restaurants, etc... Who'd want that?

Do people realize that Ottawa has the most Baby Boomers per capita than any Canadian city? They roughly represent 1/3 of our city's population. And as they age, guess what, they're going to gravitate towards lower maintenance lifestyle as they retire and downsize.
