The Depths of Deep East Oakland Pt. 2: Coliseum Industrial Complex

In case you missed the first part:

The Depths of Deep East Oakland Pt. 1: Durant Manor

For this set, I did the area around the Coliseum BART/Oakland Coliseum. The area actually has more to it than one would think, including a park that in many ways is analogous to the West Oakland park I did a thread on earlier (Middle Harbor Shoreline Park) in terms of being relatively unknown to non-locals and its location in an area that is widely known for being a concrete jungle. It also has what is easily the most functional retail area in Deep East Oakland (Hegenberger Road), although it's mostly low-end chain restaurants and stores with some exceptions such as Yoshino Sushi.

Here's the pics...

^About a year too late but still lol

^Any Oaklanders on this board know what's wrong with this picture? Hint: If you're old enough, nothing will look wrong with this picture lol.

The inside of the Coliseum BART:

^Those are the Lion Creek Crossing Apartments on 69th Avenue. While nice looking from the outside, in reality they're dressed-up projects. The old army-style projects they replaced - locally known as the "69-Ville" or "the Ville" - were at one point the most dangerous in the Bay Area and were home to Oakland's most notorious drug kingpin Felix Mitchell. The only surviving block of these original projects (Lockwood Gardens) is on 65th Avenue, but they were also remodeled (although they kept the name). While these apartments remain a high-crime area, they are nowhere near the level of depravity the Ville was. The new construction was also somewhat successful in bringing a more mixed-income population to the projects (the units themselves are up to date and pretty spacious) so it remains to be seen what direction the neighborhood will take in the future.

Oh, the Coliseum. But I still have a soft spot for Cincinnati's now-demolished Riverfront Stadium, so I'm not one to talk

Good to see the marsh area.

Glad you caught the old pick-up truck on the highway scene. And the old trailer made an interesting picture.
