Curbed is reporting that a new Pace University Dorm is in the early stages of construction right across the street from NY by Gehry. This was at one point going to be a hideous Gene Kaufman Hotel. From what I can tell this new design isn't bad, but isn't great either.

Even though this building is quite average, the fact that a Kaufman crapstack won't rise here makes me very happy. The city dodged a bullet here.

Somebody should add the New York smile to the thread's title btw.

This tower is complete.

Occupancy should be ready by May, where it will host students as its essentially a dorming tower.
