Curbed is reporting that a new Pace University Dorm is in the early stages of construction right across the street from NY by Gehry. This was at one point going to be a hideous Gene Kaufman Hotel. From what I can tell this new design isn't bad, but isn't great either.
Construction is making quick headway at 33 Beekman Street, which will soon be a 33-story dormitory for Pace University. The architect of record is Gene Kaufman, and the developer is The Naftali Group; the building will have 378 ‘units’ in total.

Completion is expected in 2015.

A partial stop-work order has been placed on the property, but construction should resume shortly, and 33 Beekman Street is expected to be completed in 2015.
