I've both recently driven and walked through this area, and what strikes me is how perfect the massing is for the location. If you don't look specifically at it to see the unique design, it feels as though that building always was there.

I'll have to walk by it myself cause from the image, I can't see it.

To me, it just looks like a bunch of stacked trailers.

Its a neat concept, but it does look like something out of Junk Wars.

Nice picture! But who would want one of those units at the rear? All you would see is a blank wall and have barely any sunlight!

I bet the unit with the balcony and a glass garage door on the top level must be an awesome party house.

Of course it does, because it's definitely not an improvement over what was there previously - a run down building turned into a "hide out" for people to smoke or shoot up crack. I think most Ottawans did their best to look the other way when passing the building that was previously there. To me, the current building looks as though someone was awarded a groupon deal that gave them a spattering of exterior finishing materials - aluminum siding, brick, metal, glass, etc... and decided to incorporate as many materials as possible. I would like to say I appreciate the effort, but I almost prefer the old building - at least its brick exterior had a consistent design flow.

Like I said, looks like a someone got a wicked deal on exterior siding at Home Depot and threw up err.... threw it up there. To me, there are a lot of changes needed than black brick and making it more oragne to salvage this building.

I just don't get it?

What's with the railing on the unit to the far right above the orange support beam.

There is no balcony, not even a sliding door. To top it off, it sticks out on the side of the building.

Can someone explain?

I think the only explanation is an utter lack of design skills.

This ranks among the most, if not the most, ugly and discombobulated design in Ottawa in years, IMO. A very poor product on the outside, if you ask me.

I got it! The orange siding and beam are similar to the orange spray painted 'X's you often see on branches and trees that have been marked by the city for removal. Please dispose of this hideous excuse for a condo in a similar fashion - it is wood-framing afterall, wouldn't be too hard to throw it in a wood chipper.

I guess maroon bricks, orange panelling and beige cinder blocks were on special that weekend.

I think we're all fully aware that artist renderings and actual project differ, but usually the colour schemes are the consistent factor.

Are those swoopy circly artistic things near street level supposed to be the architects rendition of standpipes, dryer vents and other miscellaneous unattractive through-wall flashings?

If that's how they see the world, this extreme level of 'rose coloured glasses' syndrome actually clarifies a lot for me in terms of why I often disagree with architects...

Are they delusional?
