No "Battlefield Earth" playing in the windows of the Scientology building?

I don't think the proposed building is ugly enough.

No, but the geese flying directly into the side of the building is.

They didn't. Overall I thought it was a pretty weak hearing for critiquing such an important new development. The commissioners barely said anything that resembled critical thought towards how the building looks/will function. I totally agree with the stacked shipping container look too (looks terrible) which did get a similar mention last night. Way to many horizontals for a building already so long and over 250 feet tall. It's funny too that at the ground level, the building is split in two, but then is a long ugly box above. There was explanation as to why two towers wasn't feasible, but something has to be done to cut down on the full block length of the tower.

I don't really have a problem with the lobby function facing J Street. I too think it makes sense to have the bulk of the retail face the arena/plaza. However, the the multiple car ramps from J Street have to go. They should be able to consolidate all car access to the 6th and J Street corner near the service bay. The porte cochere design also has cars essentially crossing over the sidewalk. Not too smart as being a pedestrian fighting cars anywhere along J Street is already not very fun. This design team needs a serious lesson in pedestrian circulation and safety.

The stray dog was an odd choice in the one rendering as well, but someone actually trying to look into the Scientology building was pretty funny.

ugh, looks more terrible with the new renderings. Just needs one building, not 3 or 4 containers stacked together.

Are the little rendered people and geese etc. intended to stop the viewer from looking at the rendering of the building?

With another coaching change, which I don't agree with, that picture of fans doesn't look that rosy.

I disagree with the coaching change as well. Especially the timing. There's more to it than we know. With 24 games played and your star player out for 9 games why would you ditch the coach? Evaluate him at the end of the season. Thought we were done with the coaching carousel with the Maloofs gone. Although I did think Vivek's big mistake was hiring a coach before the GM. You don't do that.

Court dismisses environmental challenge to new Sacramento Kings arena

Quote:
An appellate court Wednesday dismissed a citizens’ lawsuit challenging the new Sacramento Kings arena on environmental grounds, removing one of the last remaining legal obstacles to the $477 million project.

The 3rd District Court of Appeal rejected the lawsuit filed by a group of citizens led by a retired Caltrans director, Adriana Saltonstall. The lawsuit said the new arena, which broke ground at Downtown Plaza last October, would bring enormous traffic and air-pollution problems and even lead to post-game riots by drunken fans.

The appellate court affirmed an earlier decision, by Superior Court Judge Timothy Frawley, to dismiss the suit, which was filed under the California Environmental Quality Act, or CEQA.

“It’s certainly helpful to have this out of the way,” said Assistant City Manager John Dangberg. “CEQA challenges...are very common in California and can result in substantial delays to projects and substantial costs to projects.”

I tried to go back a bit and do some sleuthing online to find the height of the building. But, I was unsuccessful! Does anyone know the height of the arena? The practice facility?

Event level (bottom floor of arena) to L street level is 16 feet 10 inches.

Arena height from event level to roof top is 150 feet 11 inches. Subtract 16-10" for height from street level.

Event level to Main Concourse/Plaza level is 31 feet 10 inches.

Event level to Practice Facility roof top is 115 feet 6 inches.

Note: these are from elevations document from January. Some changes to the facade overhang & height, loading dock entry/exit and other changes have since been applied. But I don't think the arena height changed.

Thought this was a good photo of the construction. Also, looks foundation activity is happening for the shipping container building.

REALLY? a 52 foot tall COWBELL on the top of the arena? Is that what how we want everyone outside of Sacramento to see us?
