Well consider this. If you have an 8' level that is 1/32" out of plumb that's pretty good. If you have a 1200' level that's a couple inches off that's nothing. Without doing the math that's about 1/100" per 8'. Obviously they use GPS instead of a level, but it's just an example.

All this steel fractures talk does not add up. Perhaps there was an issue with the specification of the steel not meeting specifications, but you would think that would pass quality before it was shipped for use. Also, highrises are built to flex, and have dampeners to counter the flexing, but does not totally eliminate it. So, I don't understand even if the steel structure is out of plumb (baring in mine that tolerances to exist), that would be the cause of the cracks/fractures. Would love to hear the engineer provide an explanation. This is definitely a conundrum.

Windy City Rubber Ducky Derby ..... Yeah I get the impression , someone has been spending way too much time at this event .

Well, some kid on the playground told me that they forgot to put a crucial lego block in on the second floor, and now it is left over near the end of the build, and they are pouring over the instruction booklet trying to figure out where this piece goes, and they'll probably have to tear the whole thing apart and start over. Bummer. Totally credible, though.

Although we are hearing this from two different sources, it would seem to me that rumors like this are the type that catch like wildfire and create these urban legends.

If you ask me, just by looking at the last few pictures that TallCoolOne posted, it looks like the base of the lantern area on the top of the building is an incredibly detailed and time consuming structure to piece together. It looks quite more complicated than just slapping another floor on.

I would imagine this would be the reason the job has slowed down, in addition to the strike a few weeks back.

I'm betting it's all good.

I have zero faith in the rumors. There were similar rumors when CC was getting high too.

I'd guess there are similar rumors regarding other buildings as well.

My issue really with all this is where are the media reports if such a rumor were true. Major delays to the city's largest building project should engender some media buzz.

Mmmmhmmm especially since there's a major media outlet actually moving in there.

Nice pics!

I tend to be skeptical when it comes to rumors like that. I was hoping that the spire would be up before I leave for college, but that seems unlikely.

By and large, the only info the Inquirer reports on any more are passing on press releases, and even with them the editing is terrible. Fake news

I don't believe the rumours. I think there is another segment of the cooling tower and then the lantern will come. Time will tell though.

You can tell a lot of work went into the cooling towers with the close up photos. Even looks like one if not both of the large coolers were place and connected in the towers. As noted by one of the posters, it looks like they need to build another segment upwards too. So more work to be done before the "lantern" work starts.
