Not sure how accurately this applies to GW Block 23 (my fault for not being up to date on the details) but it is an excellent description of what I think we'd really like to avoid being built. With respect to the response that it provides value through jobs, buildings can provide that and be interactive and useful for residents and passersby who don't work there so that the immediate, automatic reaction to the building is more positive.

Should probably have just left it at "well said".

I, for one, enjoyed reading your comment. Especially the part where you humorously undermined the usefulness of said comment. Now, as for this present comment, "usefulness" is not a concept that comes to mind as one of its possible attributes.

Awesome, that makes 3 400ft+ towers that have broke ground within 3 months.

Hopefully once the bigger lots have dried-up there will be more motivation to go vertical. These large lots end up with short buildings with massive floor plates.

The fence is up, the tree is down and in a pile, and dirt is moving.

They are not wasting anytime on this project. There were about six large trucks lining up to haul dirt away right after sunrise this Sunday morning.

Is all the parking above-ground on this one?

There are 2 levels of below grade parking.
However, the foundation is a very thick mat slab, so the excavation ends up being +/- 38 feet deep.

Here's some more renderings of this project.

I found these on the Design Commission's website. You can scroll down to the August 25, 2014 meeting and click on "backup."

I really do not like this project. I loathe those kinds of cutouts found on the southeast and northwest sides.

It's also incredibly bulky in a non-aesthetic way. They could have cut down on the floor plate and increased the height substantially.

Yeah, from Auditorium Shores it looks like one whole bulky building next to North Shore. They need to increase the crown height or something.

I'm liking it more, based on these new illustrations. I like the way it's broken up instead of being a uniform monolith. The wall effect is unfortunate in the view from the lake. It would be nice if it weren't so wide, and you could see some daylight between it and Northshore, but at least it's better than the drab office buildings that sprouted downtown in the early 80s.

Hate to say, but this would be the typical suburban office tower in Houston.
