Well....since I'm living near Tokyo now, I guess I can have some input on LED displays, considering there are a shit ton out here (even out in Fussa where I'm stationed at). LED displays are deceivingly brighter than one might expect. Strategically placed facing a window can prove to be a bitch and a half to look at. Now I can see where forty is coming from by saying that it ain't the end of the world for those reside near GM, but Vandercook (dude, I totally forgot that was your last name until forty mentioned it again, shows you I've been away from the forum for awhile...sorry) is also right in saying that some LEDs are a complete eyesore and for a resident who has to adapt to it, it can be a real bitch. Both of you have good points, not even worth bitching over it anymore.

Finally.....yeah Vicelord, that GCU board is atrocious (SP?).

I don't wanna get in this lil fight but regarding the LED boards, IMO: While extremely tacky, I don't think it would've been too terrible. They are located in DT after-all. Most DTs in America are loud, bright places. DT Phx just happens to be sleepy and more quiet than most suburban hoods.

The Citgo sign in Kenmore Sq. is beloved by the residents of Fenway/Kenmore neighborhood.

Oh please. That whole area is a shithole. GCU actually brightens up the area in more ways than one.

LED boards are now installed at US Airways and the Suns. This will look cool.

When looking from Tilted Kilt down the street, it will be a great sight with all the LED and signage!!!

I also noticed more static billboards. In addition to the ones that make me want Bud Light, they put some Chevy ones on the south face of the convention center.

Another article from azcentral about the Legends Entertainment District doesn't share that much new about the project that we haven't covered here, but it does reveal some financial details that is news to me--as part of a $2 million upfront investment in an $8.6 million project cost, the City stands to gain $350k a year. I don't know anything about advertising economics to know whether that's a good deal or not, but I like the idea of some amounts of profit off it after several years.

Admittedly, the thing has grown on me somewhat. I kinda like the canyon effect. I just wish it were all LED signage to really give a "Times Square" feeling to it. Perhaps as the project matures, that kind of upgrade would be warranted.

^Good points, I too hope the signs improve if the City is indeed making profits off of them.

I just wish they wouldn't have named it "Legends Entertainment District", or named it anything. What are the borders of this "district"? Is it different from Downtown? It only serves to confuse people, just like the "Copper Square" moniker did. Its just an area where the City is allowing more intense signage, that doesn't need to have a name the public should see.

Plus if Jackson Street ever happens, I imagine it'll have a lot of neon and LED too and it seems doubly confusing to have two different entertainment based sign filled "districts" just one block apart.

Is this project completed? I see they've added new Captain Morgan signs, are their more to come?
