Yay. This one didn't take a pause after the demo. They've started excavating for the underground levels.

Well, they just ripped the tops of those trees off without a second thought didn't they... I'm surprised that the city did not require them to either save them or move them to another location. Those were good sized Live Oaks. Value alone of each tree in the thousands.

It's a shame they can't work on the convention center at the same time. It's frustrating to see the council drag their feet on making that decision. They keep coming up with things to ask city staff for in order to drag things out. I think the proposal was submitted 2 years go.

Adler tried to make it part of a bigger proposal to get support as the "downtown puzzle" but the council wants to study that on a piece by piece basis including evaluating if they should expand the convention center which (IIRC) they already recommended.

I wish there was support to put a vote in an election to fund an audit of the council that analyzes when issues were pushed due to a lack of consideration of the prepared facts. TLDR: I don't think all the council members read what they are given and some of them just don't accept facts that contradict their beliefs.

Someone here should run for District 1 or 5 next year.

I do wish the building would have more color than this. Covering the entire building in glass can't really be pulled off unless you pull a fairmont and put lights everywhere imo.

I actually like the facade on this one. It has texture, which is something some of the other glass towers have lacked. The accent trim there is sleek, too. That's sort of like what I was talking about on Third + Shoal how silver or grey trim can be sleek in small amounts, but over large areas, it can appear somewhat cheap. It doesn't have to be metal either. the Genral's favorite building on Barton Springs, for example, has too much a broad area of grey. It just looks like a dreary winter day. haha

If the building has to be glass it would be nice of it not to take the plain L shape like Fairmont Austin has (no gripe to the Fairmont but they could have done better). I think this style is really the best for glass, if only Fairmont did the same at AUS as this building is the Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver.

Reverse Images searches say that photo is nowhere else on the internet. The architect doesn't even have the project on their website.

I think it'll be very similar. Everything seems to show that triangular cantilever with signage at the top.

I drove by the site today for the first time in a week. The hole they were digging must have been part of the demo and not the start of excavation because the site is level now with no equipment on the site. But one lane of Cesar Chavez is closed along the site, so they better start digging soon if the damn lane is gonna be closed.

Excuse my laziness, but can someone tell me if this is going to take up 3 blocks like the old renders? I thought this was supposed to have a huge green roof and provide more convention space??
