Anderson, South Carolina - more southern fried grit

i've been visiting this city often for the past 2 years to see my girlfriend; there's only 25,000 in the city, 70,000 in the urban area, and 165,000 in the metro (even though it's part of the Anderson-Greenville-Spartanburg sprawlopolis of the Upstate, aka the redneck part of South Carolina.) the city's grown on my despite its proximity to Clemson.

Anderson's just interesting enough to spend a good time photographing it, and being a former mill town, gritty enough to keep my interest...kind of reminding me of Gadsden, Alabama

my Anderson pics from 2 years ago

downtown - i've seen a nice improvement to it. a few rennovations and more businesses, which will hopefully continue despite the economy.

Interesting to see some of the same locations from that previous thread. Wasn't expecting to see the abandoned buildings.
Some of those older brick ones are great, like this one:

Very nice shots, LSyd. I'll definitely admit to feeling melancholy over seeing photos of Anderson though, as it happens to be just outside of Anderson where my mom was buried... Even stranger now that I'll be flying out to Spartanburg at the end of the month to move my dad back to California...

First of all, loved the photos!! Very nice! It is just weird for me because I was just looking at a map of the area the other day and for some reason the city of Anderson stuck out to me and I wondered what it looked like (probably because my mom's family is Anderson). Anyway, thanks for sharing!

I really like cities of this size. There's such variety in this country. Beautiful shots as always.

Quite a comprehensive tour L. The downtown looks a lot better than I remember it (about 8 years ago). Good to see the positive changes. I feel kind of stupid for not knowing there's a university there.

Maybe I was so impressed with Greenville that I felt a bit of disappointment with Anderson. Good to see the night shots too. Thanks for the dandy pics.

Awesome photos, thanks for sharing!
I have never been to Anderson, only Greenville. But now I really want to stop by there on my next trip to G'ville. Lots of beautiful buildings and houses and a very charming downtown!

This may be the spookiest house i've ever seen outside of a hollywood movie. Actually, it may be the spookiest house I've ever seen, period. Anyway great photos, the night shots are superb.

my girlfriend loves that house; it's being rennovated (at least work's being done to it on the side.)

Greenville is nicer than Anderson, but it's also bigger...Anderson still has a way to go, but in 2 years i've seen downtown go from nearly-dead to showing signs of life. it's a small private school with a good theatre program.

Nice tour. Down south, a mansion wouldn't be mansion without some kick ass columns.
