Videotron Centre looks good! Quite possibly the best angles I've seen.

The artwork near the cruise terminal; that suppose to be cigarette butts? Very fitting!

An Indigenous mural has been painted on public housing in the Rawlin's Cross area of St. John's. It includes duplications of paintings by Shanawdithit she made in captivity (after learning English) to explain Beothuk culture and lifestyle. She was one of the last Beothuk and voted by Newfoundlanders and Labradorians several times as the most significant indigenous woman in our history. Her memorial, and one of the places she lived after being captured, are nearby.

Pic via FB of today's unveiling:

Quote:
In addition of an obituary announcement in a local St. John's newspaper on June 12, 1829, the death of Shanawdithit was reported in the London Times on September 14, 1829. The announcement noted that Shanawdithit "exhibited extraordinary strong natural talents" and identified the Beothuk as "an anomaly in the history of man" for not establishing or maintaining relationships with European settlers or other Indigenous peoples.

...

Shanawdithit is widely known among Newfoundlanders. In 1851, a local paper, the Newfoundlander, called her "a princess of Terra Nova". In 1999, The Telegram readers voted her the most notable aboriginal person of the past 1,000 years. She had 57% of the votes.

very colourful. Native art seems to be very graphic and quite different from coast to coast yet a similiarity at the same time.

This is Love Locks in Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver.

Do most cities have some place where people leave locks?

This is in New West along the riverfront park

Local Sculptor Working On Secret Project For July 1

Video Link

Quote:
MacDonald is heavily involved in working with 2000° molten bronze this week. He and his team are carefully pouring liquid metal into 43 moulds that will make up the monument. He says the work will be dedicated to the a Royal Newfoundland Regiment this coming Memorial Day in the Province, July 1st.

The piece will be located in Bannerman Park, near Military Road and it is currently in the final phases of creation at MacDonald’s Foundry called The Newfoundland Foundry in Logy Bay.

For those hoping to catch an early glimpse of the monument in advance of its installation, MacDonald says it will be a well guarded secret until it’s grand unveiling and he’s keeping quiet about the forces which have lead the creation of the piece.

MacDonald says he is going to be a little cheeky when people ask what the sculpture depicts. He says it will be a softer if not unconventional military monument and he creates mystery when he explains that the work has been made possible through an anonymous donor.

If I didn't see this in this thread I would have assumed that was the reminiscence of a service station or advertisement platform. Some "artist" is laughing all the way to the bank here.

As for the Hamilton sign, it's looks great but come on could you not try to be a little more original? You even plonked it right in front of your city hall.

Ralph will be at Hamilton's City Hall for the next few months, it's next to the new sign.
