Looks like lots of room to add lanes in some places and not so much in other. Is the plan to eventually have six lanes? Also, I'm still not seeing how this project is costing ~$2 billion. How many side projects are part of that total?

Not that I am aware is it to go to 6 lanes.

Also what most people neglect to think about when you see the $1.9B price tag is that they are servicing this road for 30 years and in the end have to give back in as new condition. That's means a significant overhaul of the bridges and redo of the roads service both main highway and service roads. So 1B for initial construction. $200M for serving / maint and $700M for refurbishing.

In Canada, we always joke about how every single highway project is politicized.

Sometimes I really wonder what SSP-ers in the Ottawa-Gatineau forum think when they see my avatar (profile picture). It must be very misleading.

Took a couple of videos tonight before people really realize it's open.

This is the current beginning of the TGH extension, basically at the border of Mount Pearl and St. John's, to Kenmount, which is where it started until today.

Video Link

And this is the other direction, from Kenmount where it used to end on to Topsail Road. It'll be extended again in the future.

Will it eventually reach Pitts Memorial? It doesn’t seem sensible to end a freeway 1-2 km before another one.

Brookfield Road for sure - but I don't know after that.

Whole city is dead, really. There was almost no one anywhere I went tonight, and I had to drive across town to get to the TGH.

And go for it.

Yeah, that's the final phase of the highway. It'll run parallel to Brookfield Road, cut across and link into Pitts Memorial in some odd type of exchange.

It should intersect at the Commonwealth Ave interchange and continue south as routes 3, and 10 to the Southern Shore. I think the whole construction project will span over 15 years?
