They still expect first half 2016 construction, my guess they'll start once the ground thaws.

That would be a nice treat for making it through winter.

Quite an interesting read, for both the Chicago tower as well as for the other active projects around the globe.

Great read. It's kind of flattering that they chose to jump into the American market via Chicago, rather than New York.

here it is

Joint Venture Platform in the Americas and Chicago Project, America

In July 2014, the Company formed a joint venture with Wanda HK to establish a joint venture
platform in the Americas with a total capital commitment of HK$10 billion, in which the Company

holds 60% and Wanda HK 40%, for the joint acquisition and development of suitable real property
projects in the Americas.

On the same day, through Wanda Chicago, a wholly owned subsidiary of this joint venture
platform, the Company and Wanda HK entered into (i) the Formation and Contribution Agreement

with Magellan Parcel C/D LLC (“Magellan”) and Lakeshore East LLC; and (ii) the Operating

Agreement with Magellan to jointly develop the Chicago Project in which Wanda Chicago holds
90% and Magellan 10% of such joint venture.
The planned total gross floor area of the Chicago Project is approximately 173,000 sq.m. It is
located in the heart of Chicago, adjacent to Millennium Park and Chicago CBD. Many of the
well-known destinations are within walking distance of the project, such as the Theatre District,
Museum Campus and Michigan Avenue. This is the last unbuilt site within the Lakeshore East
area with excellent geographic location.

The project is expected to be developed into a 350-meter, [1148.29 feet tall]
93-story super five-star hotel (with estimated 160 rooms) and high-end condominiums, which will
be Chicago’s third highest building upon completion and a new landmark in Chicago.

The Chicago
Project is expected to commence pre-sale by the end of 2015, obtain the planning approvals,
complete settlement and commence construction work in the first half of 2016.

The development
of this project is expected to be completed in 2020.

You're missing a qualifier here "With Excellent geographic location" ... Still maybe a bit misleading but atleast not an outright lie.

And Magellan has an incentive to be subjective and misleading if they want to later develop closer to the lakeshore.

Always take Chinese firm press releases with at least a healthy pinch of salt.

At any rate, no way this tower takes 4 years to complete from first caisson. 3 maybe, not 4.......

The remaining sites on the east side may be a bit farther from the action, but they're the ones with permanent lake views.

I'm so sick of the anti-Chinese sentiment that the Chinese are unscrupulous. I cannot bear it anymore. j/k.

Well Waterview took more than 4 years to finish although Teng and Associates, Inc. was not as credible as this company by any means.

Sometimes I wonder whether Sam has any idea what he is talking about. Any supertall starting construction in 2016 is likely to open in 2020. If they broke ground in the 1st Quarter of 2016, then maybe they'd open 3Q or 4Q of 2019, but 4 years is a totally reasonable construction schedule for a building of this size.

For example, Trump Tower started early spring of 2005 and didn't even top out until the August of 2008. That's three years just to build the superstructure, not three years for the entire project as Sam suggests above. The tower opened in January of 2009, just shy of 4 years. Assuming Wanda starts in 2Q or 3Q of 2016, then it's extremely unlikely that they will deliver the building prior to 1Q of 2020. I would say they probably even have to add a few months beyond Trump's schedule because of the complexity of the first 10 floors of this project. Remember that you have a parking garage with a road running through it at the base and another road across the top of it at upper Wacker then 1000'+ of hotel and residential uses above that. Not exactly your standard first 10 floors of a building. This is going to be a very large site with a lot going on and will be fun to watch.

^ you're probably correct this will be fun to watch, but it will take a while; the floor plates and windows should be very difficult for the construction workers to complete. Not to mention this is basically 3 towers in one.
