AUSTIN | 500 West 2nd Street | 400 FEET | 28 FLOORS | U/C

The address is 500 West 2nd Street.

This is a planned 500,000 square foot office tower that is part of the redevelopment of the old Green Water Treatment Plant. Two other towers in the development will be apartments and the last one will be a hotel.

Tower crane plans. There will be two cranes. This says the cranes will top out at 547 and 480 feet.

Here are the heights from the building elevations.

Quote:
399 feet 6 inches to high roof. This is the highest point on the building.

389 feet 6 inches to level 31. This is a mechanical level inside the mechanical penthouse above the main roof.

375 feet 6 inches to level 30. This is another mechanical level.

361 feet 6 inches to "level 29" - this actually the main roof parapet. This would be the barrier wall between you and the "drop."

359 feet 6 inches to "roof" - this is the main roof slab. It's the surface you would walk on on the main roof.

345 feet 6 inches to the 28th floor - this is the highest occupied floor. It's the last office floor.

Construction to start immediately. Also, they've adopted a new name which will be the building's address - 500 West 2nd Street.

Dirt is about to turn for another downtown Austin high-rise

Construction will begin immediately on another office tower in downtown Austin. Trammell Crow Co., in association with Principal Real Estate Investors, formally purchased a parcel at the former Green Water Treatment Plant downtown from the city of Austin in the last few days and is proceeding with a speculative office tower.

Beck Commercial Construction is the general contractor on the 29-story, 500,436-square-foot speculative office building at 500 W. Second St. that will be completed by the first quarter of 2017. Gensler is the architect.
Some site work has been done and applications for tower cranes were reported a few weeks ago.

Google to lease 200,000 square feet in new downtown Austin tower

11:50 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 | Filed in: Business

Search engine giant Google Inc. is set to establish a major presence in downtown Austin, with plans to lease more than 200,000 square feet of a 29-story office tower being built as part of the redevelopment of the site that once housed the Thomas C. Green Water Treatment Plant.

Gerardo Interiano, public affairs and government relations manager for California-based Google, confirmed the lease in a written statement Friday.

This is under construction now. They have the rebar for the foundation in place, and they started the mat foundation pour over the weekend. At the moment it would be the 14th tallest in Austin.

This tower is commonly referred to as the Google tower now because Google leased about half of it to consolidate their Austin operations. This is part of the Green Water Development, and there are now rumors in the Austin sub-forum that Facebook is looking to move their Austin operations into another not yet announced Green Water office tower. Facebook's current Austin operations are in another office tower just a few blocks away on W. 6th St.

Very nice; modernist. Much better than the Hotel Zaza proposal.
