East Meets West - Turkey Part 2 -Capadocia

I though of posting this in the underground cities thread but I want to continue my series here. Capadocia for the most part has been at the world cross roads. The people who lived there started digging in the soft vocanic rock to make houses, some of the earliest churches, fortresses, and entire cities (up to 10,000 people). Please enjoy these photos. All photos by me except Google Earth Aerial

Large Church Interior

More Scenary, Kinda Like Utah but with over 600 ancient rock cut churches, numerous Roman/Greek/Hittite Ruins, Ottoman Mosques, and Sejuk Caravanarsaris. Pretty Awesome

Capadocia is wine country

Fascinating. Add another spot to my lengthy vacation list!

How would you even describe this to someone?

Fantastic photos.

Did you also went on one of the many hot air balloon tours over Cappadocia? IMO one of the most spectacular ways to see the region.

I flew from Istanbul, its about an hour flight.

No unfortunatley. It was so expensive, around $200 US perperson. I regret not doing it but that gives me another reason to go back.
