What do you mean first? The first was the design of the Olympic logo for London.

This just looks like they were a big fan of Monument to the Third International. Some angles I like in a Jetsons 50s/60s future look kind of way, but overall it does little for me.

Don't let Kapoor anywhere near design work when he's severely hungover.

A bit more of the context of this tower can be seen by watching the video in my signature

Folks, these things aren't always well received in their early stages. But this is something that could be a defining landmark for London in the future. It may not be the most "beautiful" of icons by some standards, but it is what it is.
I think the Coney Island comparison is a good one. I wish the Olympic organisers had presented it in those terms - a fun structure to ensure that the Olympic Park remains a tourist attraction, rather than comparing it to the Eiffel Tower or the Statue of Liberty.

I suppose, in time, it will take its place alongside the Crystal Palace Dinosaurs as a curiosity on the edge of London.

^^^Bedhead, I had never heard of the Crystal Palace Dinosaurs before.

Thanks for the link....I found their story to be really interesting.
And they're pretty cool looking too.

Actually , if he put some sort of cladding on it I'd say it was both art and appealing. The current incarnation , well , it'll never be beautiful but it would at least look interesting. I guess if that's what people want then this will deliver (ugly or not)

Yeah there's some ugly crap from the 50s-70s, and the Olympic stuff is not impressive. However, London has some of the greatest and most unique architecture in the world IMO.

I have to agree that London's architecture is some of the worst I have seen in any central area in a world class city, and some of the upcoming projects look goofy or derivative (The heavy-on-top building, and the Pinnacle, respectively), but I do appreciate the Gherkin and I like the Shard, even if I do fear it's long lasting appeal.
This project, I like the looks of.
