A source told me that the Apple Store was supposed to open on August 2nd, but that has been pushed to the 18th because of a problem with the ceiling.

Yeah! Right in the Halifax Shopping Center.

More info is here - http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/iphone-...-store-layout/ .

This will sure take some traffic off of bestbuy, futureshop and other wireless providers when the new iPhone launches. Maybe people will actually be able to get their hands on the models they want after the first day of mayhem.

$17 Million is a major renovation.
Bedford Place Mall looks like its going to go high end.
Sunnyside mall has always had most of the higher end stores in Bedford.

Maybe Bedford Place Mall will become a small version of Halifax Shopping Centre.

Little Burgundy (shoes) announced by HSC today. Opening this summer.

http://www.littleburgundyshoes.com/

The store is replacing Locale (which it has been doing elsewhere in the country lately)

Looks like another great addition to the mall!

Next Door will be Wicker Emporium, plus there is construction happening to the left of PetSmart which will eventually be another tennant (yet to be named). Glad to see this mall building up.

A good grocery store is badly needed in that area.

I checked in about this today. They've acquired the land at 200 Wyse, just to add to the fairly large portfolio of land Sobeys already owns. However it could be a couple years before anything is done with the site- if anything. They're opening 2 new stores within a year and a half in HRM, there is a new one going out in Sackville which will be opening "soon" (as I was told), and I wasn't informed as to where the second one was going.

For the second location I would think Dartmouth Crossing would be a great place for a Sobeys. I can't think of any grocery stores even close to there besides Costco which requires an annual membership and generally only offers goods in bulk.

I wonder about the Wyse Road location. Sobeys have had a really grungy store on Primrose forever and I've always been surprised that they have kept it open. The area is not great and the area around Wyse isn't any better. I just wonder what kind of store it will become. Luxo-grocers don't generally go into low income areas.

I agree, not the best place for a "deluxe" grocery.

Sobeys will likely sit on the property until the neighbourhood "improves".

The "Old Mill" is shutting down on Saturday so Sobeys wastn't interested in holding onto the property for long (or at least didnt want to lease it). This somewhat supports your claim.

I am surprised this place is actually closing.

From Daily Business Buzz

"A Dartmouth landmark is closing this Saturday after 50 years of serving loyal customers.
The Old Mill Tavern on Wyse Road was planning to have a 50th anniversary celebration, but instead will have a closing celebration this Saturday."

http://www.ns.dailybusinessbuzz.ca/P...ter-50-years/1

Maybe Sobeys isn't going to put a new Sobeys store there. I think a new Lawton's store on Wyse would go good for competition against the Shoppers. Then they could upgrade the current Sobeys store on Primrose and make it into the medium size store that it should be. Just a thought.
