I feel it is a good thing for the area to have the level of selection and price Safeway offers for the people who live in the Pearl/NW PDX. I would seriously doubt that even those who frequent Whole Foods won't be supporting the Safeway with their dollars.

Regarding the screens over the parking levels that you can see in the pic above, I'm surprised that they didn't put those on the west side of the building also. I was walking down Lovejoy last night from 23rd and crossing under 405 you can see parked cars inside of the garage. You can also see the four levels of the garage itself lit up extremely bright compared to the rest of the building. Really ugly

I often walk down from my place on 21st, and the site of all of those cars is repulsive. Luckily, this will soon no longer be an issue - the Enso will block a good portion of this view, and pedestrians will need to look up to see the cars. Though I am always surprised that people choose to drive here... How much sushi and bread are they buying?

cool shot - looks like it was taken from Edge lofts? That building probably blocked what was a view of the Fremont Bridge. Hardly a fair trade.

Real Estate Roundup
Pearl District building earns LEED gold certification
Portland Business Journal - by Wendy Culverwell Business Journal staff writer

The Lovejoy, a new office, retail and parking structure, has earned the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Core & Shell gold certification.

The Lovejoy, in the Pearl District between 13th and 14th avenues and Lovejoy and Marshall streets, is home to a Safeway store and to law firm Ater Wynne LLP.

To qualify for the LEED rating owner, Unico Properties LLC packed the project with energy- and water-saving features such as an eco-roof and ample windows. Construction materials were sourced within the region and restrooms have showers and lockers.

The building is 88 percent occupied.

Mark Friel and Buzz Ellis of Pacific Real Estate Partners represent the property.

Possibly the least appealing building built in the city in the last decade. Repulsively ugly. The architects and developers should all be imprisoned... in the Lovejoy.
