Agreed, though I wish the Nellie Black and Martha Wilson buildings could've been saved as well.

Took a phone-cam pic from the Byrne/Circle of 808 Van Buren:

Been watching this one go up for a while - I see it every day on my way into the office - and figured I'd better snap a photo while it was still u/c. . . despite better driving judgement. . .

This is indeed a great project.

Lincoln Park has been getting a bit stuffy and snobby lately. It needs an injection of new life

168 N Michigan - ex Hotel Indigo

March 23

Notice the jumble of bricks - used as filler between the steel structure and the Terracotta hung on it.

On the lower right the imprint of the mesh used with the plaster is still visible.

No doubt, the Lincoln Commons project is going to be a game-changer for the entire area! Projects like these need to go up nearby many of the underutilized CTA stations, at least to the scaled to the extent of the available land for development! Adjust the zoning, Chicago!

^ The TOD zoning is already there, but a large project still needs to go through the community approvals process. And Lincoln Park has the worst NIMBYism between the coasts.

^ That Best Western needs to go. I don't foresee any movement on it though until a lot of the many remaining parking lots in the immediate vicinity get developed, however.

Yeah its actually a weird situation. That block has kind of a split personality... the northern 2/3 of the block was subdivided with an alley leading out to Irving Park, but the southern 1/3 has no official alley, so the alley to the north just kind of dead-ends in the middle of the block. The city hates dead-end alleys, since garbage trucks have to back out and vehicles can get trapped.

However, the lot north of Veridian has served as a kind of unofficial alley, allowing vehicles to exit the alley to Clarendon from the dead-end.

Since it’s not an official alley, Veridian couldn’t put windows on that side... but the “temporary” windows may suggest that they are trying to get a formal alley dedication for the parcel, which would allow them to remove the brick from those openings at a future date and put in real windows.

Part of the base for 1130 S Michigan. There is an identical one on the south end of the building as well, although that serves as its (ugh) parking ramp entrance which opens up right on to Boul Mich.

Came across an article that states that Nobu Chicago is set to open in 2018, I'd think construction is gonna need to start soon if that's gonna be a reality...

"Joining the portfolio in 2018 will be Nobu Hotel Palo Alto, Nobu Hotel Marbella, Nobu Hotel Riyadh, Nobu Hotel Los Cabos, Nobu Hotel Chicago and Nobu Hotel Barcelona."
