The building does not cross the property line on the west side according to the blueprints. So next to the water not over it.

I believe he means that it's below the waterline right now... otherwise yeah, definitely not built in the river

The pictures have been amazing, but they seriously don't do this tower justice in how massive it already feels... and we are only on the core.

^ Hmm, they don't show that black structure in the renderings. I kind of like it.

Those are the bases for the tower crane.

IIRC River Point's climbing crane was black.

It seems like luffing jib cranes in this town typically have black towers.

I believe someone said that the permit called for 1 crane but that would be awesome if we got 2 or more. For a project this big I don't think that would be out of the question.

Thanks for the updates!!

IIRC a Favco 760 can pick up an entire semi-trailers load of steel on one line which makes unloading much faster. And then when it comes to erecting I think they also put multiple pieces on one line and just drop them in one after another

EDIT:

Yup

That is a good observation. Actually I think the large diesel luffing jib cranes used for the big office towers (150 Riverside, River Point, 110 Wacker, etc) have tended to have a black base. The electric luffing jib cranes for the smaller steel and concrete buildings that require luffers have typically been the same color schemes as the hammerhead cranes. So yellow on Vista, red on Gems 2, etc. Looking forward to seeing this crane operational!

I drove by the project site yesterday and they were lifting the motor and hoist wheel. Another impressive machine. I love the Favco 1760MD. I was thinking why the erector was renting from a different company and then I remembered LOMA, where they rented the crane for 150 N. Riverside, filed for bankruptcy, following a crane collapse in New York. Anyone know where this crane was prior to coming to Chicago?
