"To avoid this benching effect, narrower height districts of varied height and mechanisms which allow greater height for more slender buildings should be created. Height limits should be structured so as to allow the presence of new buildings to affect the existing skyline in a positive way, softening existing “benching,” and providing more variety and interest in the skyline and general view of the city.”

How about increasing the height to 800-1000 ft?

As always, great photo finds. I’ve been following these threads for years, shortly after moving away from SF in 2008. Some of these buildings I never thought I’d see actually happen. Those transformative render images of the city someday. And here we are, this amazing new skyline realized. Very cool.

This view from San Leandro is all kinds of awesome:
skyline, both bridges, Marin headlands, some of Mt. Tam,
equal density on either side of the new skyline peak
(from this angle, the SoMa side actually looks more dense than FiDi)

a few projects visible from Caltrain...

the office building on Townsend at Sixth is starting to sprout rebar above the fenceline

around the bend at 100 Hooper, things are definitely swinging into gear

at Hayward Park in San Mateo, the dirt piles have been cleared so work on the housing is now more visible from the tracks

and just to show the new office component, which is wrapping up

down the way at Hillsdale, they appear to be paving a parking lot next to the current station

but behold the glory of what is the rising tide of Bay Meadows

950-974 Market Street Approved

I read that Group i's project was approved 11/17/2016 by the Planning Commission 6-1. This one does not excite me, but I know some of you have expressed favorable comments here.

it'll replace this, so I'm a pretty big fan on that reason alone

agree. this is the edge of where Market St starts looking and feeling run-down as you travel west, practically visible from the touristy crossroads at Powell, and with Market Street Place 6x6 finishing up across the street, will hopefully help to shift that 'border' out a bit.

on that note, anyone else feel like the push to make over Mid-Market has lost momentum? seems that we hear about projects a lot, but nothing major has actually broken ground the last couple years (since 6x6).

The majority of mid-market projects announced have either been challenged by community groups or market re-thinks as economic costs have exploded. Someone will eventually build.

^ that last shot is great.

over at 1 Henry Adams, more fencing is coming down...

... and access is opening up. this is the lower and upper walkways on the west side

peeking into the mid-block passage

peeking back out, at 2 Henry Adams

from almost the eastern end of the passage, still looking back west

its sister project 855 Brannan, which looks to be at full height

the alley (which should be enlivened by the project) between it and the Zynga building

Brannan side

the office building site at Sixth and Townsend, looking east

and north, from Townsend

in about the same state is the office building between Brannan and Bluxome near Fourth:

near 22nd St Caltrain, the scaffolding is coming down on this one. close-up, the orange-y parts look like real wood

South Park looks like it's gotten a ?play structure

textures of the City

the hotel near future Moscone (Fourth and Folsom) subway station

Why is that hotel so short when it's right next to a future major transip hub? Should be 40 stories. Just west if the future Moscone Station there are some lowrises that could latter be turned into highrises once zoning is changed. Also between Yerba Buena Gargens/Moscone and Westfield there is a massive parking garage which could be redeveloped into several skyscrapers on top of a parking podium with acessd to both the Powell and Moscone Stations.

Park Tower, in the foreground, will be 605', but don't miss the big coming attraction that's starting on the other side of Salesforce Tower!

Check out the other San Francisco threads to see four more towers under construction plus those that will be joining them.

clearer pics of the 100 Hooper site, which looks quite active now. moving north to south

down at the Schlage Lock site at Bayshore Caltrain, the wall they had been building some weeks ago now sports a message for passers-by

the site itself, and the Brisbane Baylands just to its south, is framed by pleasant backdrop of hills, particularly this time of year as everything turns green again
