Nice pics. Good to have some more recent aerials. Gives a good perspective of the density of our DT core. I still wonder how any taller towers would mix in with the current stuff. Everything is just so level and built on a grade perspective. Who knows?....

Here are some other good aerials of Ottawa, though not quite as recent as Denis Duchesne's.

What are those empty lots to the west of downtown? Anything going on with those?

Ever notice how the new part of Wellington does not line up with the old one? It kind of bothers me but I think its because of a certain protected view axis that is centred on the Peace tower. It sort of explains why the Claridge condo building is behind it and the rest of it is supposed to remain flat, the War Museum fin being a deliberate exception.

But doesn't the National Archives Building block the Peace Tower from that direction?

I don't think it blocks the view unless you are right in front of it. The building is not very tall and the Peace Tower is on a hill.

Someone needs to take a pic from the appropriate angle.

Well don't look at me for that, I only have a crappy disposable ATM.

Hopefully I'll get a decent digital one for Christmas!

Ottawa Aerial From Plane

Here's an aerial I took last July on my way to Europe. We departed runway 32 at YOW and turned northeast over Gatineau to intercept our course, resulting in a very decent view of the city.

Sorry for the watermark but you only need to be robbed once ...

That's a really cool angle. Don't think I've seen a picture from anywhere near there before.
