It is great to see cities like Charlotte, Salt Lake City, DC, Philadelphia and others have investments in their respective downtowns during a recession.

Another great project for Charlotte.

Yeah, it has been very slow going. The site prep was going on in early summer of 2006. The Ritz-Carlton hotel was built first, while the 30 floor office tower was still below ground. Now the concrete core is about 5 or 6 floors high, so there will be actual progress to report about. The tower is expected to be completed by spring of 2010.

Skyway between 1 Bank of America & Ritz Carlton (right) and the under-renovation Founders Hall & overstreet mall (left)

Is this going to be the color of the glass for 1 Bank of America? Will Charlotte get its first truly GREEN buidling? Stay tuned!

Nice. I sort of like the smokey gray glass. Any idea how tall it is?

What tall building is that off to the right?

Thanks for bringing Charlotte back to SSP, initiald.

EpiCenter, which is on hold? I am not sure if it has been cancelled or on hold. The retail and a hotel component, occupied by A-Loft, are complete. The tower portion is /was to be a 53-story residential highrise that will /would have been built on top of the completed retail portion of this development.

The tower is 210 Trade. It was supposed to be a 50 floor condo tower atop the 5 floor Epicenter shopping/nightlife development. Epicenter was built and the foundations for 210 Trade are in place but it never went vertical. Original delay was due to lawsuits between the developers of Epicenter & 210 Trade, but now that the economy is down that will kill it for at least a few years.

At least the 50 floor Vue is being built. It would be almost overkill for downtown Charlotte to get two 50+ floor condo towers at the same time, though.

I took these Fri. May 22nd. For comparison, the 1 Bank of America should be a little more than twice as tall as the Ritz-Carlton (the glass box to the left of the construction in the first photo)

Nice. The Ritz looks better than I thought too. Also, I've never seen the Epicenter so that is a bonus. Supposedly, 1 BofA should shoot up now. This area of Uptown is almost out of room!

From 6/6:

New facade for the retail space in Founders Hall, and the new honkey tube.

The Ritz-Carlton portion of the project. The hotel is scheduled to open in October, and will feature an upscale steakhouse on the street.

1 Bank of America is on about floor 11 of 30 so far.
