this thing?

This is either an entirely different building, or the rendering is off by several stories and it is not a cube...

It sure is a mess. Or as they say in Chinese, 乱七八糟!The new pedestrian overpass should certainly help things.

What new subway line is going through there? I wasn't aware that they were building a new subway line through Lujiazui!

No, this building isn't even in Lujiazui, but closer to Century Park iirc!

The lower tower is almost completely clad by now, and the taller one is rising.

Ice? Can't be. I don't think Shanghai has had temperatures below 0 degrees this winter - and even if it has, I think you'd need much lower temperatures for ice to form like that on the facade?

well, it has been kinda cool there for the past few days, and if the building doesnt have heat yet, it is possible. Local weather logs show that it was -1 degree on the 1st of the month, and it has been below freezing on and off for the past few nights.

Maybe its the protective plastic peel on the windows. I remember the SWFC had that on it for a while.

Why would ice form vertically like that on a building wall? I don't think I've ever seen such a thing before? It has to be something else.

High humidity, low temperatures, and a facade that isn't perfectly vertical all put together could mean ice. Could be plastic covering, could be ice.

The second tower has already started. They work on the core and also preparing the first floor. I guess that, at the usual speed in Shanghai, the tower will be topped out by the end of the year.

That would be cool if it really was ice.

The SIFC site is on fire. Looks to be the workers' residence or the leasing office.

^I was in Lujiazui yesterday - no pictures, but the second tower looked to be about 8 or 9 floors above ground now.
